Ok i didn't notice untill now that my old comp has PC2400 256 DDR RAM. My new comp has a AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor, and a MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard.

Would this RAM work? I mean will it run or could it fux0r my comp? I know it's pretty slow, but i dont have my new RAM yet. Thanks

How did you find out it was PC2400? If it was a label or application that told you so, I need a pic of it. Really, I must see a pic.

Unless a little birdie told you.

The old PC2400 sticks that I have are currently running at PC2700 with a touch more voltage. They are basicaly PC2100 sticks that are made to be overclocked. Not sure if that answers your question though...I'm pretty sure those boards support PC266 up to PC400.

There's a label on the side -

So its safe to run PC2400 RAM? Im afraid that my $500 worth of new components will just burn to hell because im too lazy to wait for the rest to arrive

No, your RAM will not work. You need PC3200, 2400 will not overclock THAT far. PC2400 was made in the days where PC2100 was barely able to make 2-2-2 timings, let alone scale to 200MHz

A64 isn't as memory sensitive as the P4 is. There is lessa than 5% difference between pc2700 and pc3200- this was documented very clearly in a forum topic around here. True pc2400 is less, but shouldn't be too much.

Also, memory timings don't make the end of the world~ in most cases you will see no difference at all save for synthetic benchmarks.

So if I were youi'd see if i could overclock that ram to pc2700 and I'd just sit on that...unless you are planning to go for a gig, and then I'd probably say buy new ram.

Yep, I have a stick of Corsair 2400. That was before 2700 was out.

I turned on my comp to install mobo. With my new proc and mobo it seemed to work (but i had no idea what i was doing) When i came here and read that i couldn't use it i turned off comp. If my comp powers up does that mean it works? And how do i overclock it? Please dont just say increase voltage, details. thanks
