Well, we've been friends since we were maybe 10 years old, both 29 now. We briefly discussed it, and both were worried that it could lead to a big negative for our friendship, which would totally suck. I think it's a good rule, if you think about it, you'll see there are many reasons why it's a good idea.

I don't know but I wish that I did. The timing was always wrong between my best friend and I. She had a bf for 3 years and when she finally broke up with him she moved away shortly after and now I'm away at college. I wish we had done something in the short amount of time though. Hell we even talked about it but it never ended up happening. Now she has a new boyfriend and is pregnant and says she'll probably marry him so it looks like I lost my chance forever to find out what could have been. Oh well, at least we're still friends.

Sadly, You getting serious/married to someone else , or her getting serious/married to someone else, will ruin the friendship (or if not the marriage). Therefore, You may as well give it a shot since eitherway it's going to end, just a matter of when. As said above, at least you'll have the comfort of knowing.
