So, here are my devices that currently get wireless from this masterpiece of yore known as WRT54G v2 located in the basement (devices are on 1st floor):
- Older laptop plugged to TV: Intel Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g)
- Newer laptop: Realtek 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN
- TV: Standard IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n - Frequency Band 2412-2484 MHz, 5150-5850 MHz
- Media player: Pivos 802.11n USB Adapter, 300mbps/ 2.4ghz
Would those really benefit from a dual band N router?
What I wanted:
- better internet video streams to the older laptop (no HD, Slingbox mostly)
- stream from a future dlna server to either TV or Media Player.
- NOTE: Range hasn't been a problem. I get wireless everywhere in the house.
I am ready to buy a new router if needed, but:
- I don't think it's time to invest on AC standard yet.
- On the other hand, AC will eventually be approved, so I don't know if it's worthwhile to put $150 on a top dog N router now.
I googled as much as I could. Now I need your thoughts, and they are greatly appreciated.
