Warren Buffet wants to pay more taxes.
Same with Bill Gates.
Our wealthiest usually call for more taxes on the wealthy. It is usually only those who WANT to be wealthy that call for less taxes on the wealthy.
I completely trash your premise, and this is the best rebuttal you have?Originally posted by: Bu B3ar
article is two years old, lets see if he still says that after losing a good chunk of his wealth in the downturn. also, didnt see him throwing demonstrations to back it...
So if a sports team felt that a rule was unfair, they should start all games with the score being 10 to 0 in protest? No, that is not what you do. You play by the rules as they are, while trying to change the rules. You don't sabatoge yourself which accomplishes nothing for your goals. One person paying more tax won't do a thing for the country (even Buffet). But getting all of the wealthy to pay more tax will do a major thing.Originally posted by: JDub02
the funny thing is that they can send checks to the IRS now, if they wanted to.

I would think that when "Buffett urged the Senate Finance Committee" it had far more influence than throwing a couple of random demonstrations.

So, there goes your premise that our wealthiest 'usually call for more taxes'....does that make you feel more rebuked?

Why would they want to pay more in taxes? This is ridiculous. Why would you want to send money to an inefficient government that will waste all that extra tax revenue. If these people wanted to do good (aware of Bill Gates foundation et al.) why not give more of their money to charity? A lot of charities have very low overhead and can help people more directly that the federal government.

Your point: Do you think this would ever happen in America?
My point: I provide a very specific example of it happening in America.
And you claim that I'm the one rebuked?
Look at my post at 9:45 am Eastern time (post #11) before you wrote your post. I give a link to an organization with hundreds of the wealthy calling for more tax. Here is another example, from 2009, the Netflix CEO wants more taxes. Edgar Bronfman (founder of Distillers Corporation Limited that owns Seagrams) wants more taxes. The fact is the wealthiest of the wealthy are more Democratic than Republican. They voted for Obama, and they've voted for other Democrats. I can keep going, but I doubt that you'll listen. At some point, I need to stop kicking you while you are down.Originally posted by: Bu B3ar
maybe i stroked off for a second there...where did you show this happened in America?

maybe i stroked off for a second there...where did you show this happened in America? one man? well, i guess two if you count Bill Gates...but yea, far from a resounding cry of mass support. theres an exception to every rule, and im glad Buffet took that stand, but the point was more like, would you see a committee of rich American's lobbying for more taxes? I've never seen it...

Taxes are a investment in the government.
If you feel that you are getting a decent ROI, then higher taxes may be acceptable.
If you feel your investment is being wasted, then why increase your investment and you may want to decrease it.

i wish they'd put their money where their own mouth is and stop volunteering mine. i need lower taxes, not higher. I pay between 35-40% of my income in taxes right now .. not counting sales tax, higher prices because of other companies' taxes, etc. i'd put the total figure well over 50%.

Anyone who wants to give MORE money to our government is a complete idiot. End of story, period.
1. Why the hell would you give money to an obviously failing and corrupt system. (wait the government already stole our money and did it for us)
2. Why the hell would you want the government to be BIGGER and more involved in our lives? Even if the gov. wasn't pathetic, do we need new parents when we move out of the house? I guess some people actually do...
If you saw some crazy homeless guy throwing money into a sewer drain, would you give him some more money when he turned around and asked you for it? NO, and thats basically what our gov (and ALL governments) do, throw money in the sewer.

So who else can step up to the plate and maintain our stable society allowing you (and many others) to do business? The problem with your train of thought is that you want things to return to the anarchy/feudal periods where the strongest pretty much raped and used force to get what they want. This is even more backwards than any religion.
