Would this run GTA IV?

Technically, it would run it. It wouldn't do it very well or at anything other than the lowest settings, but it would run. Well, walk. Walk slowly like a one-legged hooker on ice.

Whole system is that bad...the first Phenoms (NOT Phenom II's) really sucked as quad cores...also that 4350 is going to run shit...youd need a new video card for sure...no doubt...

Why not just get a Xbox 360 or PS3?

Not a chance, i can get 30fps from my laptop but drops into 10-15 when lots of stuff happens. Not playable as far as im concerned. Was running it at 720p lowest settings. Laptop has a T6600 CPU and 4570 GPU. I wasnt actually trying to play it just see what the lappy could handle.

That's worse than the OP's. GTA4 needs a decent quad to run well and it needs at least a 1GB video card as well.

I would think a dual core PH2 with a GTS250 would be far more capable than quad PH1 and a 4350. 4350? seriously? you cud pair that with an i7 980X and you still wouldn't get anywhere.

you could always go for the cheap athlon x4s though

Yes it's a crappy video card but in GTA4 gfx cards mean less than the processor does.

The quad core is actually just fine for GTA4. They recommend a Phenom X3. We're talking about a Phenom X4 here. That core really does help quite a bit. If the 2.2ghz Phenom X4 ties the E8600 (3.33ghz, 6mbL2) at stock clocks, then the 2.3ghz variant should be even better. The processor is actually pretty good. It just doesn't overclock well and isn't very power efficient.

You will want at least a Radeon 4650 in there. Recommend a 5770/4890 though.

I read the patch notes for GTA4 on steam April 13. they said:

-Rendering optimizations have been made to improve performance, particularly when enabling shadows
-User-configurable graphics settings have been added for shadow control
-Improved memory management

so maybe they fixed some FPS issues with that patch?

It still doesn't run that great with everything turned up on my system.

my friend runs GTA4 on an e8600 and a 4770 at 1280x720 he gets about 40FPS avg. If graphics aren't that important he would still get crappy framerates at that rez.

I got a solid 60fps with shadows turned off and everything else maxed on my X3, which now an X4. I just can't figure out how to change my sig.

GTA 4 is terrible on PC unless you have really high end hardware. I'd play it on a console instead, or find a different game that doesn't run like crap on PC.

And please don't get one of those Phenom I boxes that you see everywhere. There's a reason they seem so cheap for what you get. They're not really that good.

Well, I shouldn't say don't get one... you can find some good deals on them. Just don't expect them to be that awesome just because they're quad core. Old Phenoms were serious underachievers.

The main problem with the OP's system in question is the vid card. I would think if you put a 4850 1GB or better in that system, GTA IV would run just fine.

Without that, though, it would run about as well as viivo says.

You should be able to find something almost twice as fast for that type of money.
