Would Wc3 frozen throne look any different on a better card than a radeon 7970?

And the gpu is the key component to upgrade? Considering I have i7 8 gb. How many more resolution options will I get with like say a 4 gb gpu?

You might check the official starcraft2 forums for the latest impressions but my AMD 8350 cpu with 7870 vid card runs Legacy of the Void fine, not great at 1080p. SC2 is not a well coded game and often brings high end cpus to their knees.

@IllogicalGlory: With all the forced enchantments you used, does the game actually look any better or is it just a waste of time more or less? I am asking because textures are really showing it's age so I have doubts whether any of this actually helps. If it's a yes, I'll do it this weekend on my 1440p and r9 390
Smoothing out aliasing always helps. Not what I'd call a huge improvement, but since the game has no native AA support, it can help.

OP: What monitor do you have? If you have a 1920X1080 monitor, then no, you will not get higher resolutions with a better video card.

This part is confusing.

You will have access to all resolutions with any videocard depending on the native res of your monitor, however I think you mean playable performance at a certain resolution.

To answer this you will have to list your budget and your expectations.

I think this is because the game doesn't use more than 2 cores which is silly if you ask me.

I own and plan on playing more starcraft 2. Would I get higher resolution with a better card for sc2?

Why don't you go to the basics to help yourself out.

1. Whatever games you play, download FRAPS and launch it. See what FPS you have. You can run the game for 10, 25, 30 minutes, etc. and export the FPS into Excel to see what your averages are.

2. When you run the game, have everything maxed out. If you are happy with the performance, you saved yourself some $$$. Just enjoy the game.

If your FPS/maxed out settings do not meet your expectations, just report the findings here and people will help you pick a gaming card upgrade.

Also, please list your detailed PC specs:
- exact CPU
- exact PSU
- your monitor model

u can use the integrated graphics on your i7 CPU and it'll run fine. That game is ancient.

What kind of display/monitor do you have?

Your resolution options may be limited by your monitor, not the video card, such that getting the newest video card won't allow you to select new resolutions.

Unless you never move your laptop around at all (and in that case, why even get a laptop?), chances are, the laptop will physically dis-integrate before 10 years are up, even if the performance seemingly will be adequate that far in the future.

I like to use it in different places, bed, kitchen table, couch etc. I like the portability potential in general. Had a 15 inch dell studio xps a while ago, miss those days
