I don't get how some people can shop there like it is nothing. Seriously I would rather kill my self than have to shop at a thrift store like goodwill.

Maybe it is because I have been spoiled all my life, and don't know what it is like to be poor.

some people enjoy the nostalgic items that are offered. Other then that, it's a lot of stuff that smells bad and won't wash out.

Used by

1. poor people
2. Emo/punk kids
3. Halloween shoppers

*EDIT* wife and I consistently donate nice clothes that we grow out of, so sometimes they will have unused or barely used nice/modern clothes

Then they are douchebags. Unless they are in the fashion industry, they have no reason to care or even pay attention to what brand of clothing you or anyone else is wearing. They need some better hobbies.

Absolutely not. I know people that shop there and find things they really like. I've seen them buy a 300 dollar purse in perfect condition for 5 dollars, and quality tables you wouldn't find made today.

i would expect this to be the general ATOT answer.

apparently its not though. i've said it many times and i'll say it again, the responses i see on this forum confuse the hell out of me sometimes. one thing gets a certain response and then a related thing gets a completely different response.

Your "people" if that's what they can even be called are superficial class A losers. Do they go digging for your clothes tag to even know what brand it is?

I'm noticed something odd over the years - more than half the cars at the local thrift shops are $30k + vehicles, no more than 3 years old. So, I don't think it's a matter of being poor, rather a matter of being thrifty. I used to stop in every once in a while. While in college, we got a pretty decent pool table for $5 or $10; not a slate table, but it was in pretty good shape & something I'd never seen before in the living room of a suite.

Goodwill isn't just about cheap clothes; you never know what you're likely to find there. I have a David Clark aviation headset (>$350 retail) I found in a Goodwill store for $25. Perfect condition. Am I embarrassed at saving over $300 because I may have touched some things that poor people may also have touched? No more embarrassed than I am to post on the same forum as ICRS

Never shopped there but I hear that some well off people actually donate some very nice stuff to them and write it off for taxes.

With a bad economy like this people will do everything it takes to save money. OP is a tool. Who cares what your corporate branding is.

I shop at Goodwill and donate to Goodwill, I don't find it embarrassing at all.

I wouldn't be embarrassed to shop at Goodwill, but I would be embarrassed to be someone like that or to have friends like that.

I've never shopped there, but I can't see why I would be embarrassed to do so. Where a person buys clothes or anything else is not something I worry about. Anyone who concerns themselves so much with such trifling, utterly unimportant things is someone I would likely want to steer clear of.

You'd rather KILL yourself? Really now...

Are you one of those pathetic people who finds it to be socially uplifting to spend more on a product? Whore.

What's to be embarrassed about? When are you going to see those people ever again? What's wrong with finding ultra cheap products? You don't like saving money?

I 'm probably worth a hell of a lot more than you and I have shopped at thrift shops all my life. I find brand new jeans with the tags still on them all the time. Gifts and wrong size clothes people never bothered to return end up at thrift shops all the time.

It's like a treasure hunt. Especially since all jeans are $5.

Please, continue in your misplaced snobbery. More goodies for those with brains and who do not base their self esteem on where they shop.

Were your parents Boat People or was it their parents? I bet those in your family who came here are refugees knew what it was like to be poor. Maybe you should ask them about it and listen carefully so in the future you won't come across as some entitled Wanker like you are in your OP.
