*EDIT* wife and I consistently donate nice clothes that we grow out of, so sometimes they will have unused or barely used nice/modern clothes

Sorry, but nobody cares where you buy your stuff at.

Most people I know pay very close attention to brand and such.

Then they are douchebags. Unless they are in the fashion industry, they have no reason to care or even pay attention to what brand of clothing you or anyone else is wearing. They need some better hobbies.

some people suck and put way, way too much attention towards brand names and what things cost.

A guy in my spring business class was asked what clothes he liked...and why.

something like rocawear or whatever was his favorite. why? because some famous rapper wore it. ive never heard of such a terrible reason for buying something.

i wouldnt have a problem buying something at goodwill, ive only been in one a few times. but a deal is a deal. i probably wouldnt bother with clothing, however, as what I buy isnt expensive to start with.

Never shopped there, and I wouldn't feel right doing it. IMO goodwill is made for people who can't afford regular stuff, and if there is anything good there I'd save it for them.

I once walked into the dollar store while wearing a Harvard Med School t-shirt, the cashier looked at me funny.

Goodwill is made to give the disabled jobs. The items they sell are not meant for any one socioeconomic group.

Thrift shops are the original recycling (and yet, you'll never find a carbon credit buying elitist liberal in one).

the attitude of the OP reminds me of a guy I worked with, years ago. You'd see him at the mall with a Macy's bag in hand. Ask him what he got, he'd show you something that you'd just seen at another store in the mall.....for half the price he just paid at Macy's! When you'd point it out to him, his response was always, "Yeah, but I got this at Macy's!!" (like it was so much better because of that sole reason).

If labels or names, or little embroidered alligators (or whatever) on your clothes make you feel better about yourself or your life, then you might want to look into your own shallowness. There's nothing wrong with thriftiness......and hopefully you'll never have to find out what it's like to be down and out.

It's like a treasure hunt. Especially since all jeans are $5.

Please, continue in your misplaced snobbery. More goodies for those with brains and who do not base their self esteem on where they shop.

Hah, well, I was going to post something similar but you beat me to it.

The only thing stopping me from hitting thrift shops and goodwill more often is the distance I have to go to find a good one here. I think there are one or two in my city, but they tend to get picked over pretty fast, so there's definitely less "treasure" to be found

In college, I used to go all the time, albeit usually for stupid t-shirts (also why I go now, though). For a while, I volunteered at one until it turned out that the owner was embezzling charitable funds. That was a lot of fun.

i shop there at times. some of the stuff is really nice. I got a nice stero system for the family room (why do they put family rooms and living rooms in houses? seems a waste) for $10. Also got some good work pants and T-shirts. only thing i wouldnt buy is used underwear (yes they have them)

I've never bought clothes there, mostly because the entire store usually smells a little funky, and I have an unnatural aversion to buying used clothes. I don't think there is anything wrong with people who buy clothes there though. I do buy a ton of books there, because it's a great way to kill an hour or so and find some bargains. I've also bought some paintings/prints there.

Maybe it is because I have been spoiled all my life, and don't know what it is like to be poor.

You should be embarrassed for making such an idiotic thread.

My 21 year old friend, who is completely reliant on his parents (who bring in mid six figures) shops at Good Will and shows no remorse.

I don't think this thread went the way the OP intended.

I found a 20-something widescreen HP CRT at a local goodwill for $25. Unfortunately, my truck wouldn't be able to handle carrying that much weight, so I passed on it.

It's my money. Also, have you been to A&F? Their clothing looks like it's been worn by a hobo for 5 years then dragged behind a car for 100 miles before being washed and powdered with that smell they use.

I used to shop at Salvation Army Thrift stores all the time. Dunno why I stopped. Now that I think about it, there's a huge Goodwill rather close to me. I'll have to go check it out.

No. Is it that when you go there, you can't shop in the same store where the minorities are the majority?

Racist.
