you got a wedding invitation and then you found out that the wedding ceremony and venue were *edit* 30 miles apart?

edit: Not that it really matters, but I am asking to get perspective from a guest's point of view. It's my wedding day I am planning.....

No, it is their night and if I am friend or family I am going to accommodate them within reason. Twenty miles is within reason in my opinion.

This is pretty commonplace. When my sister was married, she found a church she liked and the reception party was 45 minutes away.

I went to my cousins wedding this past summer. Should have been a 3 mile trip from hotel to country field with the wedding.
A fucking detour turned it into 25 miles. But I love her and it was an awesome wedding, so, no big deal.

Yes, I would be pissed.

Why cant they have the wedding and the reception at the same place?

All they are doing is causing issues with their guest. I bet the bride and groom are hoping a lot of people will not make the drive after the wedding and go home.

Nope, one of my best friends wedding was like that. The hotel and the reception were close (5 miles) and they provided buses. But since it was local to me, I didn't care I had to drive like a half hour from the wedding to the hotel (and then get bused to the reception). I ended up staying at the hotel cause it was a long weekend and I didn't want to drive after hitting the open bar for 6 hours, even though it was like 20 miles from my house.

I've never considered a 45 minute drive a long distance, so no.

I've been to a few weddings where the ceremony was local, but they had their reception in a hall on a lake or near the ocean that wasn't too close.

Holy crap! Boston (especially Boston proper) to Pelham is a PITA drive! My friend got married in North Andover and had the reception in Westford, so it was a straight shot down 495.

93N wont be a problem, but the directions on the back roads (113 to Pelham St.) could get confusing and very long time-wise.

That is the biggest worry. The place is kind of in the middle of nowhere....but is has an awesome lake. But man....the drive seems kind of long...

No just have a good time. You should be pissed when drinks are not free. I have travelled to Vegas, Caribbean, Europe all for weddings. I won't even mention the crazy shit at bachelor parties.

If you like the person do it, if you dont like them, then why are you going to the wedding anyway. And if you do like them, why are you complaining?

I agree. but that rarely happens.

Couple of years ago my wife and I flew out to California to go to a wedding, Huntington Beach to be exact.

The bride and groom where married at a huge hotel. After the wedding, we walked through one wing of the hotel to where the reception was going to be held.

It was a really nice wedding. They said their "I Dos", and then it was "lets eat".
