Why do people get hostile over a simple question? I am not making a big deal out of this. I just want to know if people would think it would suck if they had to do this. It's money I am spending, so I want to make sure it is not too much of an inconvenience for my family and friends. As much as it is "our day", I still want friends and family to enjoy it.

I think they are angry because you didn't ask THEM to marry you.

They secretly love you, you know.

You should have explained in your OP that it was your wedding.

And again, why not have the wedding at the reception location? Are you that religious?
I am not religious at all.

My fiancee just wants the wedding in Boston.

Nothing is set in stone, no deposits have been put down, so for all I know, we could end up having everything in Boston. Not likely (a city wedding reception cost too much), but you never know.

as long as there is a hotel near the reception that i don't have to drive to after all the drinking, i don't mind driving 32 miles to get there beforehand.

EDIT: our wedding was about 20-30 minutes away from the reception. the reception was a short drive from the hotel where we reserved a bunch of rooms at a discount for the guests but we provided shuttle buses for the guests to go back and forth.

I'm pretty sure the last 3-4 weddings I've been to have had the wedding and reception ~30-45 minutes apart from each other

It wouldn't bother me op, but as Tex illustrated... there will always be someone who will bitch about it.

I'd find a forced 45 min drive outrageous.
But I live in a place where the distance considered normal is much shorter (commutes etc.), and it's not expected that everyone comes with a car so going to entirely another place is a hassle for them.
Now I'm in a huge ass city and I'm getting used to the fact that people find 1-2 hours long commutes normal.

If where you live, the average trip takes 45 min or longer, then I think it shouldn't be a problem.

30 minutes would not be a problem for anyone imho.

family and friend will just deal with it. If you invited 500 people, some may choose not to go though. Warn beforehand of the rough time-line of the wedding so that they can choose.

I wouldn't be pissed at having to drive. I would be pissed if there was a multiple hour break between ceremony and reception like some morons like to do.

Thats not bad. The one time I was bugged at a wedding was when the wedding was at 12:00 and the reception wasnt until 8:00. Why the 8 hour wait? I have no idea since everything was held at the same building. Since my wife and I had to drive over and hour to get there, we said screw the reception and went home.

Oh please my wedding and reception were 6.5 hours apart and we never had any complaints.

nobody complained to you. but i bet people were pissed and complained (well unless you only invited a few people)

6.5 hours is a long wait for people not from the area.

Yep. Distance is one thing, time is another. Anything beyond a couple hour wait for the reception is pushing the limits of your guests.

You realize during the break the bridge/groom/wedding party are typically getting all their pictures taken. You know.. the ones that they will keep for the rest of their life. And if they have a big family, it can take awhile. It's one fucking day in their life, usually a big one. Re-Fucking-Lax.

Yeah, it should not take 4, 5, 6 hours to take pictures between events. And if it does, your planning is pure shit.

Is it an easy drive? If it's a high-stress, high-traffic drive with lots of directions required then I'd probably be pretty irritated about having to do it.

If it's just a 32 mile jaunt on the interstate it wouldn't be too bad.

Nope. The distance sounds perfectly reasonable. Would be more annoyed that I had to attend the wedding in the first place. The majority of weddings you end up attending aren't close family or friends but more distant relatives and acquiescence, usually pretty boring.
