Couple of years ago my wife and I flew out to California to go to a wedding, Huntington Beach to be exact.

The bride and groom where married at a huge hotel. After the wedding, we walked through one wing of the hotel to where the reception was going to be held.

It was a really nice wedding. They said their "I Dos", and then it was "lets eat".

yeah best one i have been to was like that. the couple said the vows in one section. Food and drinks in another. then we went up stairs to crash.

No driving after.

The reception for my wedding was 22 miles from the church we got married in which was about a 30 minute drive. We never got any complaints.

I wouldn't be pissed, but I probably wouldn't go to the wedding ceremony itself unless it was on my way.

That's kinda silly to put them that far apart. Think, a bunch of people in big suits and dresses sweating, stuck in a car for 30-45 minutes. Not exactly ideal. People just want to get to the reception, eat, go through the long, boring speeches, then go home and get changed.

That shows the wedding planners cared about the people in attendance.

The guest could get a room for after the wedding, drink all they want, and nobody had to drive home.

Nope. Last wedding I went to was like that...it worked that they also had a bus going from the wedding to the reception and back.

I would just skip the ceremony and go to the reception.

I also have a pet peeve regarding weddings where the ceremony is at 2:00, it takes 20-30 minutes and the reception starts at 5:30. What the hell am I supposed to do for three hours, while the bride and groom drive all over town to get wedding photo's from every scenic location within 20 miles? This is another case where I will just skip the ceremony entirely.

lol....my bad, it's actually 32 miles....I misread it....so it ends up being 45 minutes away...

32miles for a friend or family. Are you tring to learn something about us? Or yourself? The fact you even asked this question says alot about you.

Do you not like these people or what? If it's friends and family just deal with it and shut up. Would it be easier if everything was in the same building? Yes. Are you making too big of a deal about them being 'far apart'? Yes.

What does it say? That I care about what my guest will feel? I have would no issues doing it, but I am used to driving 4 hours to work sites. However, I am not my guests.

That is the biggest worry. The place is kind of in the middle of nowhere....but is has an awesome lake. But man....the drive seems kind of long...

Why not have the wedding at the location of the reception?

I would think having the wedding outside with the lake as the back drop is going to be much better than having it in some church in friggin Somerville.

Why do people get hostile over a simple question? I am not making a big deal out of this. I just want to know if people would think it would suck if they had to do this. It's money I am spending, so I want to make sure it is not too much of an inconvenience for my family and friends. As much as it is "our day", I still want friends and family to enjoy it.

I would absolutely not be mad. When my wife and I got married our church and reception were probably about 45 minutes apart. We got married at the church we wanted and got the venue that was priced reasonably that we liked. It's very expensive holding these events and extremely difficult to find exactly what you want. It's a short drive for a HUGE night. Be a good friend and make the drive, don't bitch or complain or be an asshole. If you can't handle that... don't go.
