chased by an amg? you mean followed by a sedan. wasn't you earlier extolling the smaller lighter coupe class, something about two extra doors and more weight?
I wasn't really going to answer you, but you seem to be like a pest that hangs around and keeps growing into an infestation just because people ignore you as a problem.

If you notice, there's a roadblock in front of me the whole time. After that roadblock was cleared, the AMG went into limp mode after about 5 turns, and the silver roadblock wasn't anywhere to be seen. To think of it, I still haven't seen him.
you sure are a funny little man how you call people all kinds of names. so because you own a car makes you an enthusiast and you know everything and anything and others don't.
Are you sure it's me that's calling people names, being condescending, assuming that I know EVERYTHING about cars, assuming that NOBODY else knows anything about cars, people don't work on cars, knows nothing about driving? Are you sure? Because I could have swear...
i gave reasons why i am not so impressed with things, to me valid reasons because i have to deal with them. maybe you don't agree with my reasons, but then all you do is throw insults and call names. real mature.
And what reasons were those? You didn't say ANYTHING valid or of empirical facts, just conjectures and innuendos. You think you're the only one that "knows" about auctions and auctioneers, which to be honest I know quite a few and I know how much they know about cars. Talking to these guys is like talking to you, a lot of run around bullshits. Psstt... I actually was gonna get an auction license so I too can buy repoed, or salvage cars and fix them up and sell them for profits, but that's not what I want to do. My friends do however.

So, I gave you plenty of chances to back the hell off this thread, but you seem to be very persistent in your own destruction. Do tell me what you do with "3GIO" that drives you to hate on BMW specifically. Make sure you google some more before answering, don't make yourself look anymore of a clown then you already are.
i watched some of your "groups" other videos. too funny. watching euro cars on a 1/4 mile strip. that so misses the point of euro performance. the real gains are from 75+, not 0+, even though most do a pretty smooth quarter, but the real power is laid down on the high end, and thats where driving that class of car is truly fun. (i'm sure you know this, i was just reminiscing)
Box... BOX.... BOX!!!! Get the hell back to the subject, there you go off on a non-relevant tangent again.
so go ahead and call me some more names, i know you have it in you, and say i don't know anything about cars, which you really have no clue.
So, what do YOU know about cars? Assuming I don't know shit about it, never worked on anything, never even seen a wrench in my life. Tell me about cars oh boxxy one.

anyway, this was really for the other post.

there is nothing wrong with the dependability of bmw or benz if they are properly taken care of, saying if you want dependability, buy japanese (which i hope was sarcasm), is so far from the truth.
as long as you take good care of the car, the car will take good care of you. the problem is, with too many owners, they fail to take care of their car, and treat it like crap, thinking it is made to be treated that way.
You know what's really funny? You say people buy a BMW because of a badge, then you suggest they go dumpster driving (auction) to get other badges that would require plenty of fixes to get running. Yes, granted that sometimes once in a blue moon when the planet aligned you can get a decently shaped repo'd, but those are too few and far in between, and is it something that person really want? Make, model, trims? Let's dig up the maintenance record for those cars too while we at it, right?

I didn't really want to waste this much time on you, but like I said, sometimes people just don't know when to quit. So, for the last freaking time, do tell me what it is that you do with a communication protocol that's standard on pretty much every single fuking cars that come out after 2008 to be hating on BMWs?

FWIW, I don't stop driving after I'm passed my 20's.

And just when you thought it doesn't get more ridiculous...

I still wub you Skoorb.

Hey, what do you guys think of me getting an e46M3, and turn it into my very own CSsnaiL? If you ever see an M3 bearing that plate, you can either walk up to the driver, punch him in the face or shake his hands. :awe:
404 error ridiculous not found.

Either you were driving so fast on public roads as to stress an AMD merc in which case you're retarded, or you weren't, in which case your idea that you can make any merc limp is silly. So which is it?
and we all have our tastes, i still appreciate a naturally aspirated v8.
They sound better than anything else. I doubt I'll ever own one for various other reasons but I was watching one of those superbowl ads for the charger and the final 10 second with its engine roaring are quite nice.

I'm not really sure either of us know what you're talking about now.

Anyhoo, I'm simply pointing out that there have been many boy racers like you, got their first job, stretched to buy their BMW, and now their crash video is on youtube. If you end up in their good company I simply want you to promise that you'll put it up on youtube, too. Like you, most of them thought they were hot sh*t because they had practiced on GT4 for a while, too.

you do know not all auctions are repo and trash cars right? a lot of dealer fleet, trade ins and other go through, especially when you deal with high line auctions. most of the cars we deal with are still 35k+, even in auction. i'm not talking junk auctions, even though i was amused when an old saab hit the auction and they were trying to get rid of it, even at 250 bucks. yes the auctions do have some lower cars, but try one of the high line auctions, most are in great shape, and they aren't cheap. anyway...

can you tell me what this means?

"I don't stop driving after I'm passed my 20's."

i don't see any point in answering you regarding my experience with bmw's new system, you'll simply dismiss it as "just google more" and so i see no point. no matter what i say, you won't listen, so whats the point?
i told you, now twice, that their new system, available to independents, is full of issues and kind of makes you not like dealing with bmw. don't you get it? you pay quite a lot to 1. get the head, 2. pay for the techinfo subscription, and 3. take time away to set it up and it doesn't work. period. they tell you it does, it doesn't. you go to other shops, test other heads, and still, it doesn't work. you finally find a shop where it does work and they spent FIVE months going back and forth until they got it to work.
over and over you go through your systems, looking for the issue, and all the time, it costs time and money. the bmw site subscription isn't cheap. sure, you can regain it when you bill the car owners, but you have to imagine it is frustrating.
you ever get a bad taste in your mouth after dealing with something? anything?
i mean, honestly, what do you want me to tell you about it?
yes, it works now. turns out it was poorly loaded firmware in the ikom head. after going back and forth with bmwna about the fact the date of the head indicated it had a good firmware, unlike older heads.

and, i never said anyone here didn't know anything about cars, or implied it. funny how you spend all your time going to extremes.
i just added my opinion, from my experience, which is very real.

if you note, i don't think i ever said i hate bmw, i quite like some of the 5 series. you keep telling me i am a hater.

i used to be a big fan of american v8's growing up, then started moving to the euro v8's, the power and performance are so different, yet remarkably similar.
even though i still love the sound of an american v8, it just doesn't sound as good as a german v8, from their purr to their roar.

i did like that commercial though.

You know what? I thought about this, and here it is, my so call "credentials" if you will, and then you guys can tell me yours. OK? It's nothing to brag about, but it is somewhat relevant.

I was a Marine, for 6 years, during those 6 years, I was a maintenance tech on F/A-18 Hornets. So that proves I know how to turn a wrench. While doing that, I got an education (albeit not a very good one, as Jlee can tell you ) My first car, was a Honda

After my trip with Uncle Sam, between various odd jobs during the dot com bust, varying from electronic retails to network consulting, I ended up as an admin for a small company. Did that for a few years, then found another job as a Sec. Eng. for a software company. Meanwhile, in my spare time I also took classes to get my license as a Smog Technician (so I can open up a shop). In order to do that, I have to take a bunch of classes from electrical, to engine performance, etc... (one of which also deals with communication protocols, standards, like ODB2, CAN, etc... imagine that!)

Before you say that just because I take some classes, I still don't know anything about cars, just hold on for a sec. I do hang around people that have the same passion. Amongst my friends and acquaintance, there are quite a few performance shop owners, mechanics, collision center owner (yup, there's your auctioneers buddy), cars enthusiasts that would also go to auction to purchase rare cars to rebuild, and I do help them with the rebuild. If you're in SoCal and ever have any vehicular needs, I'm the guy to know.

I do every single bits of work on all my cars, and yes, when I was younger I did a lot more than just maintenance. Now I just watch tuners do what they do and learn from them, people like Cunningham (EFI performance powerhouse).

Anyways, back to the topics at hand, I've owned various cars of different makes in the past, and couldn't find anything that has quite the same driving dynamics that the e46 gives, my e46. I was actually deciding between this and a Boxster S, but in the end the e46 won over. Exotic cars I'm no stranger to, much less the run of the mills e46, but I freaking LOVE them.

What irks me is that your typical e46 owners projected the image that some of you guys are trying to push on me, but despite my begging, you won't pull your heads out of your asses for one second and rethink. It all started because someone came into this thread touting some untrue craps just to support his hate.

Anyways, I told you my story, now your turn. Go.

OK, assumptions retracted

My story is spread in great part over 66k posts, it would take too long to summarize, or perhaps not very long at all

first, i never doubted you can turn a wrench or work on a car. you went to that extreme.
second, i'm glad you went with the bmw over the boxster. good call.

i have tried to not generalize, and if you reread my posts and think about it, i said and will reiterate, there are all kinds of owners, unfortunately the niche thing to do is buy a 3 series for the badge. not all people. just like a lot of people like to drop a lot of money for the benz logo, the porsche brand and so on.
the only people i've learned to truly respect are those crazy audi enthusiasts that will drop down as much as they do for the a8 or s8. especially knowing how much they devalue. now thats an enthusiast. but the ride of the a8 makes up for it and you realize why they buy them. talk about a nice ride in the cabin.
oh, i reread my first post in this thread, and i did generalize, and i apologize for that, there are some that buy for performance reasons and are enthusiasts, but the vast majority of 20-30 somethings buy for the badge. as i said, same with porsche, benz and other brands. i should have added an asterisk to not make it such a generalization.

along with your car classes, have you taken any of the driving classes offered by the manufacturers, porsche offers one of the best.

so you're in socal, i should have figured from your gmr video. funny, two of the shops i worked with over it are both in socal. i just left the area a month ago. sad thing is, i probably know you and don't realize it.
had some real nice rides up and around some of the fun snaky roads there, took the clk55 amg up to big bear and around the area, fun roads, although not as famous as gmr.
but, i will add, i am no professional driver, and don't push to try.

so here, you want bios, i'll play.
i served in the army from 87-93, didn't turn a wrench though, i was a 96f (psyops analyist) in the field, got out, realized my job skills from the military weren't worth anything in civilian world unless i wanted to be an ad-man.
i have worked with cars since i was 14, building and rebuilding every engine type possible, from american, to english to german. i have owned almost every type of car, it seems, and now am happy that the only cars i am working on are rebuilding my fj-40 and my cj7 which are ground up rebuilds for my winter project.
i know, not euro, but, do remember, i live up in the mountains of colorado, and at 9350ft, my house isn't exactly the best for low ground clearance or 2wd.
i'm now 41, still a grease monkey, and a car enthusiast.
i've also worked for performance shops dealing with bmw, audi, porsche and mb, and have spent the last few months specifically dealing with bmw software and their new tools, and dealt with a lot of headaches from them, hence my current opinion, which i am sure in a month or two will probably change again. but for now, they rub me the wrong way.
as i get older i prefer not to work on cars, i'd rather they just worked, but still enjoy the thrill of the rebuild (hence the fj40)
along with my years as a shade tree mechanic, i also have plenty of class and instruction to back up to make me more certifiable, although thats not what i choose to do for a living. i love cars and working on them, though not as much these days, but my first love is the forest and the outdoors.

don't feel bad about your first car being a honda, mine was a mustang II. but, the power to weight ratio on that car was insane.
i reversed that after i got an old ford capri which was just the opposite.

i can tell you all the wonderful lucas jokes, after working on jags, triumph and mg, and i can share a few black forest jokes with my experience with the german cars.

right now, i am sitting at home, snowed in, just thinking about rebuilding the carb on my fj, waiting for the weather to warm up. my biggest dilema being do i want to rebuild the aisin or go with a weber set up, either the 38/38 and get even poorer gas mileage or the 34/36 and lose out on some power. the aisin was one of the best, but a bet of a challenge to keep perfect, the webers being the easier choice.
oh, and i am waiting for fed ex so i can finish building up my wifes road bike, an older trek 5900 team frame i picked up from a rider of the US military national team... always like a good deal.

you've made a lot of assumptions about what i have thought about you, when i have never said anything labeling you personally.
you really need to get past that.
funny thing is, we probably run in the same circles, we just don't realize it.

nice rims, when'd you get those guys on? Ferric gray goes with dark exteriors perfectly.

and right now, this.

Back on topic a bit...

Those actually are really cheap rims. They are just a set I got for my snow tires on sale at Tire Rack for about $75 each. I found it was cheaper to buy 18" rims with more expensive snow tires than the limited 17" rim selection with cheaper snow tires. I believe they are gun metal but my right side rims have some bad curb rash so they are silver now

A full Bassani exhaust on a 32 valve Cobra engine would make you cream your pants then.

It's 50/50 mix full of bass and throaty muscle burble and exotic visceral supercar whine simultaneously.

Part of it is the engine though. Euro engines are flat plane OHC engines and most American V8s are cross plane OHV engines. There aren't a whole lot of cross plane crank DOHC engines around; it's a pretty unique and interesting sound.

I think I'm leaning towards the 335i now thanks to this thread.

Good choice Welcome to the club.

But still go test drive a few BWM, Benz, Audi, or even Lexus and other cars and see which one you like the best. All the forum debates aside, it's really how you personally feel inside the car and driving the car counts.
