Would you buy a Sandisk Extreme Pro 480 today for $219?

I ordered a Sandisk Extreme Pro 480 last year for 219 and it turned out to be out of stock. Since there was no charge to wait for it I did, now I have to accept it or cancel. But I am not sure it is still the best use of my purchasing power. I have been really sick this last week and barely had a chance to research this so I thought I would throw it out there to you guys. I am not sure that I could find the most recent benchmarks on Anantech...

This is one of the top tier MLC Nand SSDs with the 10 year warranty. Is it still a deal to jump on? I need to decide by Monday.

If I wanted to buy a new SSD right now, it would be the SanDisk Extreme Pro as Samsung's warranty / RMA sucks major balls. The performance of the SanDisk Extreme Pro is one of the best out there. I say go for it.

Thanks berryracer

That was my thinking at the time I ordered it online, but then there was a long delay when it was not in stock, made me a little paranoid since there seems to be some movement in the market.

Sad to hear the Samsung RMA process is not what it should be.

Looks as if I will take care of getting this Monday. It will go in my next HAF XB case which I got at Christmas

I believe that to be a fast, quality SSD, from everything that I've read. It's not TLC either, which is a plus. Price seems decent, considering the "class" of SSD (top-tier).

I would go for it. That, or an Intel 730, but those have gone up in price. (Were $200 around BF at Newegg.)

Yes read my experience with Samsung RMA and you are sure to never come near their SSDs. They say, 10 year International Warranty but when I needed to contact them about an issue, they said the warranty is only valid in the USA, as in, it is international but I have to send it to the USA, which will cost me 50% percent of what I paid for the SSD since I live in Dubai on the other side of the planet:

Unable to get warranty on Samsung SSDs in Dubai

When I contacted SanDisk, they replied within 24 hours telling me that their warranty is really an international warranty and they would honor it anywhere.

An by honoring it in Dubai, they meant you had to ship it - on your own expense - to the nearest depot, right?

Let me add my .02 on Samsung's warranty/RMA process. I went through it just a few weeks ago and it was the most horrible RMA process I've ever encountered with PC parts. Getting them to issue an RMA in the first place is like pulling hens teeth. They use a 3rd party repair facility in NJ and have to communicate the RMA request to them so they will issue the RMA to the customer. I went round and round with them for almost a week and finally after repeated contacts with Samsung customer service they finally issued the RMA to me. Once I received the RMA they did quickly ship a refurbished replacement for my 840 pro.

Speaking of that drive the Samsung controller is supposed to be impervious to controller panic but that is exactly what mine did and their stupid utility to unlock it didn't work. That experience is exactly why I'm running an Intel 520 boot drive right now which is actually faster. I'd say to check the warranty and customer comments on whatever drive you might be considering. If it has an RMA process anything like what western digital has on their hd's I'd consider it. WD has the best drive RMA process I've ever used.

3rd time you say it, 3rd time I ask: how exactly did you establish the Intel 520 to be faster than the Samsung 840 Pro?

Don't feel bad, I paid more than that for my first one You have to average down the cost of quality products as you go

I don't feel bad. I feel good for you. I didn't have the funds during Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Christmas for myself. Come January I decided I was going to work towards building a new machine. SSDs kept going up so I decided I didn't want the cheapest model and got the Extreme Pro. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I got 2 of them for $394 during black friday sales. kept one and ebay'ed the other for about 270. They were going for 200-209ish at a few places. By far the best SSD deal during black friday sales. Its still second only to the 850 pro, and well worth 219 still. The 850 EVO is selling for 250 brand new, and isn't as good.
