Since new consoles are so expensive and last gen console such as the 360 and PS3 are still pretty expensive, Ive thought about the Wii since it is still fun, there a few games that are intresting and I have not played (or would like to play/replay) and it is a decent enough price.

You dont even need a HD TV for it.

Would you buy a second hand Wii now?

Thank you

No I wouldn't unless you get a really good price. I'd much rather put the money towards a Wii U.

At least the Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii games isn't it?

I guess maybe if you get an early Wii that had the Gamecube ports and some of the good Gamecube games it might be worth it as well.

I should also note I have zero interest in the Wii-mote and stuff like Wii Sports so I'm lacking a very large part of the appeal. If it's for kids/significant other/family that likes that stuff then it'd probably be more worthwhile for you.

The Wii U is fully hardware backwards compatible with the Wii, and you can get refurbished ones direct from Nintendo for $200. The only thing is you will need to buy a Wiimote with Nunchuck separately, as it doesn't come with one. On the plus side, a lot of Wii U games are compatible with it.

The Wii U is also the only 8th gen system to still support analogue outputs. It works with older TVs. You can use HDMI as well for optimum image quality, though it doesn't upscale Wii games.

I'd only consider a Wii right now if you need Gamecube compatibility. Nintendo has had a pretty good year game wise with SSB, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Kart 8. There's new Zelda and Star Fox games supposedly coming out in 2015.

There is a difference between $200 and $80.
Not only that, the controller is a joke.
Also, no homebrew.

Those three arguments alone make it worth it.

I looked it up, since you mentioned it, and the cheapest I could find is 248.70 euros which comes out to $302. I see a used Wii for 79.94 euros which comes out to $97.20

I wouldn't consider a Wii unless it was sub-$50. Also, the tablet is actually pretty cool, as it allows for off-TV play within a certain distance, so you can play the Wii U while someone else watched TV or plays another console. Finally, homebrew's pretty niche, when talking about which game console you want to purchase.

At this point, the Wii just isn't a great buy, unless it's really cheap. There are definitely some games worth playing, but unless you're trying to keep your GameCube library viable, a Wii U can play everything the Wii can, while having a decent library of its own. $120 isn't insignificant, but over the life of a console, it's not ridiculous.

Vanilla Wii is dirt cheap. Cowboom has a listing for one at $50 right now, and I think they price them at $40 during console sales. You can probably find on on Craigslist for similar prices.

If you haven't played the Super Mario Galaxy games yet, those were outstanding, in my opinion. The Wii Kart, Zelda and Smash Bros games were pretty good, but not must-play material. New Super Mario Bros was pretty good as well. I dumped a lot of hours into Monster Hunter Tri.

You can probably get a pretty good deal on a bundle that includes a bunch of accessories and games on Craigslist. Only issue is, with some of the solid Wii games, there are newer, somewhat superior versions released on the Wii U (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Monster Hunter, 2D Marios). If you're OK with playing last gen versions of these games, then go for it.

Edit: saw you mentioned Euros and I don't know if the Cowboom/Craigslist route works over there.

The Wii would be for my room only so I do not have a issue of someone wanting to the see a TV at the same time.
Also homebrew is very important to not only me, but a lot of people. Its one of the reasons none of the current gen (PS4, Xbox One, Wii U) have really exploded.

I would echo everything else everyone says here. It's kind of depressing buying a Wii now, but at the same time if you think you don't want to spend $200-300 on something new, then do it.

If money really is a problem, you should buy a 360 or PS3. There are far more games, and they will continue to live on well past the Wii. The majority of AAA games are still coming out for both of those, so you'd have a back log of games for years to come. Wii isn't seeing many new games now from what I can tell. It's an extremely under-powered system. Even the Wii U is only about on par with last gen consoles for power.

If your going to use homebre, just use the dolphin emulator on pc, it's better looking and less of a pain to install game iso files.

Well, I thought about this too....

I cant really find a decent deal on a Xbox 360. I see one used but its about 250. And thats without a Kinect...

That makes little sense. Buying a PC for Dolphin, would cost a lot more than getting a Wii/360/PS3.

Sounds like the OP has made up his mind. I still think it's pointless to buy a Wii now given that the system is DOA. To me it makes more sense to save the $80 now and buy the better system later.
