Apple doesn't need an iPhone Jr.

A 4.5-5 inch iPhone "PLUS" would serve them better in the current marketplace.

Of the flagship phones currently on the market, one is 4", the rest are somewhere around 5".

Which is the single best selling device? The 4" one. Just because all the Android manufacturers keep ballooning the size of their devices does not necessarily mean that is what the MAJORITY of consumers actually want.

'They can have any color they want, so long as it's black'

I just find it semi-ironic that Android, the platform of 'Choice', really doesn't leave you much choice other than the OS skin. Obviously iOS is no better (and probably worse), but let's not pretend like on the Android side that I can get a top end dual/quad-core device with anywhere from a 3.5"-6" quality display with high DPI and LTE. No, for a top-end device my choices are 4.7", 4.7" or 5" (HTC One, Nexus 4, GS4)

I would also like a high end device with a 4 inch screen and a dual core CPU, since I know we dont need quad core CPUs. I'd rather have a more efficient dual core that lasts longer than a quad core which is only used to measure ePeen.

So, if Apple were to offer a fully featured 4.5" or 5" phone do you still think the 4" model would be the single best selling device? I would contend that the iPhone is the best selling device because people want an iPhone, not because the screen is 4".

I don't know, the 4" would now be cheaper since that's how they roll. 2012's flagship is 2013's $99 phone... I'm kidding, historically the new hotness always sells better.

I would counter-contend that plenty of Android phones get sold because people don't want an iPhone, not because the screens are 5". My mother got her original Droid Incredible because it was actually narrower than the iPhone at the time, and it fit in her hand better. She got the Incredible 2 when it came time to upgrade, but says that is her upper limit on size. She has no idea what to get next since there are no top-end Android devices in the size she wants.

All I was saying was simply that just because all the flagship Android phones are pushing 5" (and maybe beyond???) doesn't mean they are actually a great idea, and that there wouldn't be just as much demand if they were closer to 4" than they are to 5".

I for one would rather buy a flagship 4 inch phone than a flagship phone, but I dont want to buy an iPhone because I dont want to be tied to iTunes and the appstore.

No, I don't want a cheaper or smaller iPhone. I only want the updated one. I'd actually pay MORE, as long as they greatly improve it.

Define 'greatly improve it'.

Big one for me would be battery life. But barring some sort of quantum leap in battery technology... I am not sure when we'll see that.

Battery life might be sacrificed in the next iPhone if the rumor of it mimicking current iPod touch is true. It would be a slim and light phone with slightly bigger/wider screen.

Edit: iPod touch current gen. Imagine something similar with more professional-looking and smaller bezels.
