In what way is the Nexus 7 better? Other than the SoC, that is.
Software. Stock Android, no waiting 6 months for OS updates, custom ROM's
Price. You can buy 2 Nexus 7's for the price of a Galaxy Tab 7.7

I don't mind custom ROM. Anyways, ICS is, Imo, "good enough". Jellybean isn't a revolutionary update and it certainly doesn't make up for no memory card slot, no 3G module, build quality and that really fine AMOLED. Google didn't build a better tablet than Tab 7.7, which is why Nexus 7 costs less than half.

However price doesn't quantify "better". I can buy hundreds of bicycles for the price of one car, but that doesn't make a bicycle the better vehicle. Bicycles has certain other advantages or a car, but I'm sure you get my point. If I only had $250 to spend, I'd get a Nexus 7.

I'm likely going to get one because I use an Apple TV (have a Roku box as well)

Apple has a nice app that works as a remote (over WiFi) to control the Apple TV, and Yamaha and Roku have iOS apps that allow my iOS devices to serve as a remote, they're all pretty slick.

If it has GPS, and has LTE, the mini is a done deal for me.

Am not happy with the N7, outside of the price, I'm not impressed.

This isn't only about Jelly Bean.
Will your Galaxy Tab 7.7 get Key Lime Pie? and so on.
Samsung has so many "Galaxy" units in the tablet space that it's hard for me to guess which one is their major priority and will get the next quick Android updates.
With their phones, this isn't a problem. There is only one "Galaxy S" series.

Of those things you mentioned, only 3G module and no memory card slot are what I see as problems with the Nexus 7. The rema

I was kind of expecting the resolution but even so I am kinda disappointed in that. Still I prefer iOS and I prefer 7" tablets so I will be getting it.

If its essentially an iPad 2, then I'll pass on the first gen. If it has iPhone 5 internals then I'll probably go for it.

Don't see how that matters, it's not like Apple has door busters. They usually do some small sales but nothing Earth shattering.

maybe people will buy tablets that are available ? For like gifts for the holidays.

I would never buy any Apply product as long as they continue to limit it and herd keeps humping on it.

Then there is the whole price thing.....

iPod at Target was the most popular of the door busters I saw on BF last year(group of mine and my wife's friends go out every year, we cover all the big stores and the iPod Target deal was the biggest around here). Looked it up- $40 Gift Card with the purchase of 8GB iPod Touch for $195.

Latest 8" iPad rumor/pricing:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/14/apple-ipad-mini-price-models/

Basically, 8/16/32/64 models starting at $249 and adding a hundred for every storage increase. An extra hundred for cellular.

No telling how reliable this is though. Could just be a placeholder by an overeager inventory manager.

Just my gut feeling, but I think a $249 iPad will just destroy the $200 Android market at this point.

I would agree with this. I also think it will destroy the 10" iPad market at the same time.

Aw man I absolutely love the 7~ inch tablet size I can't wait. Going to have to sell my iPad 3 though since I will probably never use it after I get the mini.

Much like how the iPhone on all US carriers (except T-Mobile) means no Android phones ever get sold anymore?

If you make a good product at a good price, it will sell, even if no one has ever touched it (see most game consoles easily flying off of shelves). I think the average consumer is smarter than we give them credit for.

As such, most people don't buy Android tablets because they suck, not because Apple has some magical grip with the iPad. People have learned that Android is a perfectly acceptable choice when buying a phone, but not so with a tablet.

Perhaps, although I don't fully agree that "Andoid tablets suck" (full disclosure that I own an iPad). I have used both the Nexus 7" tablet and the latest Asus 10" Android tablet (forgive me not knowing the name, Asus has the worst naming convention known to man). Both of those tablets are quite nice IMO and I am starting to wonder if I will replace my iPad with another Apple product or not at this point.

My only point was that I see the smaller cheaper iPad not only hurting Android tablet sales but also hurting Apple's own 10" tablet sales. Personally I prefer the 10" form factor for a tablet but I think I would be hard pressed to shell out $529 for a replacement to my old iPad when there is a perfectly acceptable option available at $249.

I hope that you are the norm and not the exception. I would love to pick up a used iPad3 at a good price!

Honestly, I think it will have a larger impact on Apple's 10" market then on Google's 7".

I think there will be enough of a market segregation between the two devices. A 16GB 8" will cost $349, a 16GB 10" will cost $499. That's only $150 for the extra two inches, and a much higher resolution screen.

Will it takes sales away from the 10" iPad? Sure. Does it matter? Not really. You're still getting people in to your ecosystem, which is where you'll pull your residual income.

If it come to be true that the 8GB is $250 I'll stand by my earlier statement, I'll pre-order two.

I was thinking of Apple's own sales, not third parties. In that case you can certainly get a deal. Your still paying pretty much full price, they just toss in a gift card. I call it a deal, not a sale since your still paying out the money.

Another thing that people seem to forget is that iOS tablet apps are miles ahead Android tablet apps.
