Question: Why such strong moves towards GPGPU? Do you think you can eventually compete with Intel at the consumer level central processing market?

I'd like to know what Nvidia thinks about the PC graphics market in the distant future. What will PC graphics be like 5 years from now? 10 years? 15 years? Do they still see discreet cards being important, or will PC graphics morph into something totally different than what we have now? Where does Nvidia think they will fit in to this picture (with AMD and Intel looking to integrate the GPU on die, etc)?

Thanks.

P.S. I am really disappointed. If I don't get this issues reasonably fixed NV will not see any money from me any more.

Is it under warranty? This situation seems self-explanatory. Do you really need Nvidia personnel to explain standard warranty coverage?

Keys, I hope you intend to bring in a mod at some point to strip out all the obvious thread-crapping, otherwise the signal:noise ratio in your thread is simply going to drown out and deter any cerebral-type posts that might have been otherwise generated.

It's not covered. I had only one year warranty. It's an HP laptop. HP recognized that some of the chipsets are going to be included under an extended stuff that NV and HP agreed to do. I don't know how they concluded that 6150go does not belong there.

This is a serious issue for me. It's not thread-crapping!!!

Are you sure that's why your laptop failed? I only remember 8 and 9 series IGPs listed as effected.

I have the exact same issue! HP DV2000. The symptoms sound exactly like those listed for the bump issue. Only, I don't find this particular model listed as being covered as a special case in warranty.

Any ideas what might be in DirectX 12?
Could 3Dvision show up on the PS3 or another console in the future?
Any upcoming PhysX titles we should be looking forward to?
I know the Quadro line already supports multiple monitors similar to eyefininty, but do you think it's worth while for the average consumer?
Could Favre really lead the Vikings to a Superbowl?

My question would be...

Why doesn't the Microsoft specified/compliant way of doing EDID Override work on Nvidia stable drivers?

But that's not the type of questions you're looking for

This HP dv2000/6000/8000/9000/tx1000 Video Problems thread sums it up.
I am not the only one with tx1000 laptop that died. Believe me, it's frustrating.

Does the cross-licensing deal between AMD and Nvidia not cover things like PhysX?

Here's your top 5 questions. Some are two part, but I think more than fair.
Let's see the marketing spin on the response to these

Are you interested in discussions with National Semiconductor or VIA about a possible merger or takeover (in either direction)?

Now that Intel platform profits are gone, and when Intel floods the market with Larrabee x86 solutions from top to bottom, how do you intend to remain financially solvent without an x86 license?

Why has Nvidia driver support faltered in the past few years compared to the days of being Carmack's 'gold standard'? If you don't believe this is the case, why doesn't anyone lap praise upon Nvidia for this any longer?

Why didn't you push to integrate Physx into DX11? Do you feel it can do as an API what Glide could not, becoming dominant without Microsoft's support?

With Nvidia initially owing its success and entrance to the market on defacto industry standards such as DirectX, why the shift in strategy, and marketing to the consumer, with solutions such as 3D Vision and Physx?

Guys, most of these questions are good, but this is a technical forum. Try to keep the questions to a technical nature. We don't need to know about mergers and aquisitions.

But keep them coming guys. So far, so good.
And thank you BFG for keeping the thread out of the latrine.

Suit yourself. You'll just have to read everyone else's questions get answered then.

To answer your question which precluded your opinion on the whole idea, the focus group will try to determine the top five per week. Eventually, most questions will be addressed, but initially, 5 is the number given the allocation of resources. A small team whose duties aren't soley to address these questions.

Seriously, if you have a question, preferably a technical question, ask it.

The members of the focus group have been discussing such a program with Nvidia.
We've collected feedback from forum users regarding their assessment of Nvidia. The group then initiated a conversation with Nvidia regarding how the enthusiast community feels about Nvidia. After discussing the feedback we've encountered, it was agreed that Nvidia needs more involvement with the community and to follow trends more closely so they can answer questions in an open dialogue. Eventually the summary of that work/involvement came to this. If this is successful it may be expanded. But we are starting with this. Many of you may know Chris Ray, another focus group member. He has started this at his "native" forum as well as other members. I've borrowed some of Chris' dialogue from his threads as there is really no better way to describe this program.

I've asked Derek Wilson what he thought about posting this program here at AT. He thought it was a great idea.

If you have a question for Nvidia, you can post it here and it will be discussed among the focus group. There will initially be 5 top questions per week. Nvidia is commited to answering these questions in a timely manner. They're goal is a quick turnaround time of 3 to 5 days per question.

Final Note: This is not a "Debate" or "Argument" thread. If you want or need to debate the answers that are recieved, then please feel free to do so in another thread. This post is specifically for asking questions and receiving answers. Not Arguing or debating them. I'd like to keep this thread going as long as possible, and the best way to do that is to keep out the negativity and debates and arguments would bring. Again, please feel free to debate any answers received in other threads.

How this works:
The focus group will collect many questions each week from their respective forums for submission on each Monday. Prior to the submission, we will discuss all questions presented, and pick the top 5 most asked or that we feel are the most critical questions for the submission. The answers to these questions will be posted as they are addressed here in this thread. Keep in mind that not all questions will be answered. The top 5 questions will be addressed on a weekly basis. There are of course some limitations on this. We will not be able to field questions regarding unreleased products and products Nvidia does not support. Some questions will undoubtedly fall under NDA and cannot be answered prior to the lifting of said NDA.

Over a relatively short amount of time, these answers to questions will grow quite large and become a very large source of information.

Remember folks, if you need to flame, debate, argue, etc., start a new thread, by all means. Please keep this one free of it and strictly a questions and answers thread.

Thanks!!

Question from Nitromullet:
"Does NVIDIA have any plans to reconsider their stance on allowing PhysX to function on an NVIDIA graphics card along side a primary GPU from another manufacturer under Windows 7? If not, does NVIDIA have any plans to offer a capable discrete PhysX only (PPU) card as a stand alone product that will function with any video card, or is PhysX forever tied to the graphics card?"

This is Nvidia's official stance on the issue. Nvidia does not officially support it for performance/QA/Dev/Business reasons.

http://physxinfo.com/news/330/...-nvi...configurations/

So it seems that at this time, Nvidia is not planning any reconsideration regarding PhysX. The Ageia PPU is supported under Windows XP and Windows Vista and support will continue. This is not true for Windows 7.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, since this thread has been sanctioned by Derek Wilson, that makes it official. This is a friendly warning against future thread crapping or argumentative posting. Either ask a legitimate question or stay out.

Hmmm. My linking skills are sorta like your social skills. Lets both try to get better at our respective shortcomings. We'll have a beer later. And no, I don't care if you don't drink.

Translation:
Keys, the link doesn't work, could you fix it? I get nothing. Thanks!

Why sure waffleironhead, sorry about that. It's fixed.

What specific issues have caused the delay in bringing gt300 to market? It seems that in the past nvidia has had serious issues going for a die shrink and new arch at the same time, is that what we're experiencing here? Can we get a least a hint at gt 300 performance? What about the $150-$250 segment, both camps seem to be getting out of it atm, when will we see a dx 11 nvidia part that is competitive in this segment?

oh yeah, when will we see gt300?

Like a lot of others want to know...when will the desktop version of GT300 be released? (I know this will probably not be picked as one of your top 5 but I'm willing to bet it's the question most people want answered...after performance figures).

Question: Given that power-consumption plays such a pivotal role in determining clockspeed (performance), form-factor, cost, and design of today's advanced GPU's, does Nvidia foresee a potential advantage to be leveraged by adopting GlobalFoundries advanced SOI process technology at 32nm or beyond for fabrication of future GPU's?

For example, ARM recently reported observing up to 40% power savings when implementing the same IC in IBM's 45nm bulk-Si versus 45nm SOI process technologies. Given AMD's publicly proven history of the capabilities of SOI (clockspeed, Vcc, reliability, yields, etc), as well as their continued reliance on SOI in manufacturing both large diesize CPU's as well price-sensitive sub-$100 SKU's, it would seem that the risks of transitioning from bulk-Si to SOI have largely been mitigated for digital CMOS products of similar cost-structure, complexity, and ASP tiers as AMD's CPUs...which pretty much overlaps with Nvidia's GPU's.

From a competitive assessment point of view, does Nvidia expect AMD's graphics division's position on the subject to be the same as Nvidia's position? If not, what are some of the reasons for the expectation in AMD and Nvidia diverging over the adoption/transition of their respective GPU's from bulk-Si to SOI?

Since you have multiple people taking questions across several forums would it be possible to grab some other questions that are answered somewhere else and post them here with a possible link?

Some people see only 5 questions being answered but do not see the whole picture of a possibility of say 10 forums having 50 questions answered. This will actually get more info out across several areas.

Question: Do you think future games would depend most on the GPU's shader performance, texturing performance, memory subsystem performance (cache, GPU-VRAM bandwidth etc) or other aspects of the GPU that I've missed? (ie in designing a future GPU, would your primary concern be shader performance, texturing performance, memory subsystem performance etc), and why?

Sorry, another Q:

How would you rank Ageia's PPU physics processing capability relative to a PhysX capable GPU? (i.e. is it on par with 8600GT, 9800GTX+..?)
