Would you change anything?

First, let me state that I'm not paying for this rig. I'm helping a friend build it.

It is going to be overclocked and modded heavily over time; with the addition of water cooling. That's one part that he's not decided on yet.

Any suggestions on a good water cooling rig? Also, is this a good case to use in conjunction with water cooling?

Let me know what/if anything you would change...price is secondary, performance and quality come first.

The HD's are going to be in a RAID array; striped raptors and mirrored Maxtors.

Here's a link. to the system.

very nice rig, if he can afford it, i wouldnt change a damn thing. you may want to consider a koolannce case: it has a built in water setup

i *HIGHLY* recommend a full tower case. My friend and i both have water cooling and we each have full towers. Mine is a heavy cheap case, his is a light aluminum lian-li case. Both are functionally great, im just a cheap ba$tard. As for the water cooling, dangerden makes some sweet water blocks. as for radiators, you can really do alot with those. you could use an old heater core from a small care, or buy a radiator made for water cooling from a few different sites. please use 1/2" ID tubing btw, you get much better flow.

and, holy sh!t that is one expensive rig.

Thanks for the feedback!

@shady06,

I looked into the koolannce case, but didn't like the fact it had the reservoir inside the case; I'd like to have an external cooling reservoir, it makes more sense to keep the coolant *outside* the case for heat issues; we may even build something from scratch. My friends an electronics 'whiz'. He's been working in the industry for 20+ years. We're looking into coming up with the 'ultimate' cooling/overclocking system. He's played around with Peltier cooling, and we could go that route; or maybe nitrogen. And then, maybe marketing it.

@ucdbiendog,

Any particular recommendations on a case? I thought an Antec PLUS1080AMG might work well?

I know the system's a lot of $$$, but like I said, it's not MY money.

*and thanks for the info on the water cooling. Still researching that.

Wow, Maxtor drive is costly. You can get one of those for $60 (rebate size only $30) from OfficeDepot after coupon this week.

That aside, looks uber $$! :Q

I would switch the DVD burner to a Plextor 8X DVD-RW +RW DVD Recorder - Model PX-708A/SW for the same price and gain the ability to burn DVDs at 8X and higher cdr/rw speeds.

Good point, I already made that change...it's especially sweet considering it does 8x on 4x media.

Also the Wavemaster looks great but with 4 hard drives, a 2.8c, and an AIW 9800 is there going to be enough cooling with the two front intakes (they look restricted) and the single exhaust until you get water cooling. Just curious. Never used the case and MaximumPC used it on their dream machine but it doesn't seem to have enough airflow for high end (hot) components.

....still looking for recommendations on cases/cooling? Like I said in the original post, this PC is going to be overclocked/modded extensively. It's kind of a 'test bed' to see what's possible.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Just a thought: exchange those Maxtor drives for the Seagate 7200.7 drives of the same size. They're cheaper, quieter, and I think the performance difference would be negligable in RAID 1. At least you can keep something quiet in that monster rig ;D

These are SATA drives; your looking at IDE drives.

I mostly agree with josedawg on the cheaper, quieter drives for RAID1, but it's not my money and he insists on the best.

On the noise issue; well with more fans than I can count...a lot of modding is in store to quiet the beast down.

BTW, here's a link to the case he's getting...finally dedided on a watercooled case that will also be heavily modded with gold plated heat sinks and possibly additional Peltier cooling; maybe even stacked for 'Super Cooling'.

How much of an overclock do you think we can get? The goal is 4GHZ. (in addition to clocking the GPU). I noticed noboby seems to make cooling blocks for the AIW Radeon 9800pro. Looking at the boards, it seems like there's enough room for one. Does anybody know of one for this card? If not, I guess more modding will be involved.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone...this should be an interesting project; just glad it's not my $$$ going into it!
It's already over $4000.00...and growing.:Q

edit: I should also mention I just filled him in on the P-4EE...
