There are some good and credible online colleges. A college degree is a college degree in most cases. In todays world you get your education where you can most afford it.

If you can work full time and go to school full time then clearly you're doing something right.

Most of the online masters programs I've seen are really meant for people taking one or two classes a semester. It takes longer but most employers have limits on how much they'll reimburse you per year for classes anyways. If you take longer you can keep your educational costs below that limit and get your degree without paying a dime.

I agree. I'm lucky in that I'm in a small industry, so experience is important. Too much emphasis is placed on education and not enough is placed on intelligence and workmanship.

How do you quantify that from a Resume though? That's why Certs, Schools, and what not are important. They certainly don't tell the whole story, but are a good indication that a person probably has these qualities.

These same people still believe anything online must be wrong/fake.

Distance learning is a better term that more accept. It depends on the school but a lot of the time it's equal teaching.

I found time in the classroom for most courses was simply too slow paced for me.

Yes, but when your job history shows you were working the same year you got a degree from a school in another state they're going to ask.

Nobody is going to ask. If you have the work experience to get the job, the education is merely a check box.

This. Classrooms are nice...but sometimes it's too damn slow for my tastes.

My BSIT degree was "on-line". All of the class materials [book and assignments] were sent in the mail while my answers were submitted via online. Final exams for each class were mailed to a proctor [mine was a librarian] and sent back to the school by the proctor as well.

Looking down on someone for having an online degree is so 1970's and snobbish... This is the Internet Age - shall we also look down on people who met the love of their life on a dating site too? Or used the internet to find their ideal dream job?

That's what interviews are for, and while certifications may be important, I have absolutely not seen any direct relationship between education and workmanship or intelligence in my professional career.

Maybe I've worked at the wrong places.

No, but only because I dont think of college as being all that fucking hot anyway. Most of them are just catch up for a shitty high school education. And based on what I've seen, like high school the college teachers are just sliding them through anyway.

Only the ivy league cocksuckers have any reason to be truly proud. Everyone else is just grinding through the system to get a piece of paper that doesnt really make them much more employable. These days so many companies prefer indians or koreans in bulk rather than headhunting one american at a time.

Fuckin' A right! College is a joke. It's a money making machine bent on stealing tax dollars and over inflating the job market with a bunch of barely high school educated idiots.

Yes. My Uncle has a MBA from Univ. of Phoenix. But he sells it like a BOSS. He was a VP at the company that owned JB Homestyle buffet, Galaxy Diner and Carl's Jr. Then he moved on to some California burger franchise ten years ago.

You can get a degree by distance education from Oxford (UK) or Harvard (US) so why would anyone look down on those degrees? Obviously, if it's a Bachelor/Master of Divinity etc. then it could be questionable if you wanted to work as, say, a coder and you presented such a degree to back you up.

In the UK it's quite straightforward: anything with 'university' in its name is legal and backed by royal charter. Another way to check: the univ's website must end with ac.uk and not co.uk. In the US it's a bit more complicated but you can still look up accreditation. Make sure it's a regionally accredited univ. Also, it couldn't hurt to check the accreditation of the programme itself, although, in a UK univ, a degree the very least has to be accredited by the university. I have no clue about the US. Could be the same. Anyways, make sure it's a RA univ.
