would you freak out if you were shopping and saw a man with an AR15?

so first some d00d walks into Jc Penny with an AR 15, and now we hear about another guy doing the same at a Kroger.

what would your reaction be if you saw something like this?

Even if the person is not about to go on a shooting spree they are still the type of person dumb enough to go on a shooting spree. i.e. idiot in either case with no judgement skills

I bought my first AR-15 at a gun show in downtown Indy. I had to walk 3 blocks to get back to my car and the vendor at the show didn't have a case (and I was out of money to buy one). So I carried it by hand to the car, past multiple groups of people and police.

No one cared in the least.

If you carry around a weapon designed to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, then I expect you are planning to use it. Why otherwise carry it around, except to be a dick about it.
And yeah, a dick with an assault rifle would also motivate me to leave the area.

Much like I'm not feeling much safer, because soldiers with FAMAS AR's are patrolling around Paris' crowded spots. The risk-reward equation for that only appears balanced at best. At least when it's a soldier, I know that he has trained on that rifle. With some civilian, who knows if they know how to operate their deadly toy, and whether they are prepared for someone else to stab them in the back, and grab their loaded gun.

An AR introduces unnecessary volatility into the environment. Also, if you feel the need to carry that, you probably aren't psychologically stable.

I guess it would depend on how he was carrying. If he had it slung like the guy in the picture I wouldn't worry to much but if he had it shouldered and ready to go, I'd be a little worried.

I'd think he was a bit of a loon, and probably avoid getting too close to him or talking to him.

No need to run and hide though.

I would do nothing, it's legal to carry it to the shooting stand. I'm not sure if you have to use a car or a locked case or if it's forbidden to stop in supermarkets on the way, so I'd give him the benefit of doubt but get calmly away from there to be sure as I'm 100% certain there will be some reaction from store clerks so I just need to wait for the situation to develop.
If it's on his shoulder or he's touching it or has ammo I would run away though.

Stay alert and try to vacate the area.

I have zero problem with guns and rifles. But when you're walking around openly wielding a rifle in public, the chances are, better safe than sorry.

It's not because of guns, but people are stupid, crazy, and unpredictable. Note I didn't say 'people with guns'.

I wouldn't care for the way he is carrying it as it is pointing at the gentlemen to his right. I'd be more comfortable if he used a single point sling and it was pointed to the ground. That being said, I would keep a long distance trying to AVOID any possible problem e.g. he becomes aggressive or he becomes a victim.

Also, there does not appear to be any logic behind open carry esp. A rifle, as a deterent. Now if lots of people open carried within a set area, then I could see open carrying could be effective. Otherwise, it just paints a target on that person specifically.

If i saw it here in canada(where it would be illegal) i would call the police and leave the immediate area.

If i saw it somewhere though where it was totally legal i would act normal and carry on with my day. Most gun owners are better with there guns than police, most cops i know fire the 50-100 rounds a year they need to qualify and thats it and they are horrible shots and dont really know alot about gun safty. Most gun enthusiasts are much better shots and practice good gun saftey because they fire there guns more and have more time spent with them in their hands.

You really don't hear about any police officers going to shooting rampages. Seeing a guy with an AR15 in a store, how do I know he is legal? How do I know if he is sane or not? How do I know if something might set him off and he will go shooting? If I saw someone in a store with an AR15 or any hand gun on them, I would pick the next store.

I would freak out at first. If the dude just seemed to be shopping normally, I would correctly identify the situation as a misguided political statement of some sort and go about my business.

The only reason the AR would warrant any attention at all is because it is out of the ordinary. If I saw someone open carrying a holstered pistol I wouldn't give it a second thought. Any rifle, even if it wasn't of the assault variety, would be out of the ordinary though. I think someone packing a shotgun in the same manner would draw a lot of attention as well.

I'd think he was using poor judgement and I'd check out how he set up the AR.
As long as he wasn't acting off, it wouldn't worry or scare me. If he was acting off I'd tell my family to leave and I'd move over to his location in case he needed to be disarmed.

I'd leave the store. Maybe he's just an asshole who thinks he's being cool proving a point, or maybe he's a psycho who's going to shoot the place up. How do I know? I'd rather be alive and right than dead and wrong. I can hit the store another time.

Both of these...

It's sort of like conflict avoidance... I don't go into rowdy barrooms because it's probably not the smartest place for me to go. If you feel the need to cart your AR into Kroger... well, maybe you shouldn't be there in the first place. The fight you never lose is the fight you don't get into.

I feel confident enough going into Kroger with my concealed Kahr... I don't need to showboat.

That is not to say I don't have an AR in the truck behind the seat... :whiste:
