I wouldn't "run like hell," but I'd rather leave than experience first-hand what could potentially come next.

If the ice cream in my shopping cart melts after I leave, then it's on the store manager for not telling the freak to leave the gun in his pick'em up truck when he saw him coming.

I think a lot depends on the laws in each state. This isn't going to fly in California and when I went to Arizona, I remember seeing signs something like "no firearms permitted" on the doors of grocery stores. In either case, I'd probably notify the store manager and let him decide what he wants.

Another vote for: Stay away because he is an idiot.

I have heard that most areas have laws against inciting panic.
Even if open carry is legal, you might still get charged if Betty panics.

It's going to depend on how the law is written. We have one here but just because and anti gets their panties in a wad isn't going to get you charged because you walking down the street with a gun. Now, take the same gun and go charging down the street in an aggressive manner and you'll spend the night in the cross bar hotel.

To answer the OP: I'd go on about my day. Most of the folks doing this are doing so in an attempt to be confronted by the police so they can post a youtube video.

Look guys, it's pretty obvious that jpeyton is the one in the pic carrying that AR15 on his back. Why else would he be so defensive and rude to everyone who politely disagrees with him?

It amazes me how none of you seem to grasp the concept of political statement.

The Wesboro Baptist Church make political statements also; it doesn't make their actions not fucking retarded. Doing stupid shit as form of a political statement doesn't magically make it better.

Walk away quickly. Am I supposed to ignore the fact that the last 2 or 3 shootings were using an AR-15 at a school, mall, and theater...

He may have deliberately acting like a douche, but he's no elitist; should have brought his AR into Whole Foods instead.

I'd have egged him on. People like that deserve to carry guns because they should be killed on the spot.
 An this, friends, is why it's not a repost when it concerns OT v. P&N.

I'm sad that so many other posts were serious.

It's 2013 all right. All the more reason to be armed. You watch, one day there will be a need for a militia. My friends all joined the military trying to get me to go in too. They said nothing is going to happen, there are no wars. Well 9/11 happened and look at all the shit we got into. Currently the dollar looks pretty bad. And when that goes there will be chaos.

...to say nothing about Skynet!

I'm always impressed when a person starts with a reference to the 2nd amendment allowance for an armed organized militia and ends with the suggestion that we all need to be armed to protect ourselves against each other.

I hoping that the poll results are ATOT silliness. There's no rational reason for someone to be carrying around an assault rifle in public, which leaves only the irrational... Time to go!

Dumb idea, particularly from a weapon retention standpoint, but meh. I'd go about my day.

It could be luggage, or it could be a deadly weapon. It all depends on the person, and you know nothing about the person except that he seems to be displaying irrational and unusual behavior. Good for you if you have 100% trust in any random stranger on the street, but don't go around saying that anyone who is cautious in this situation is paranoid and brainwashed by the media. That's simply not true.
I don't need 100% trust in a stranger. As I pointed out earlier, I would be happy to bet you that 99.99% of people in the US that see a rifle being openly carried will not be shot by it.

It's easy not to be paranoid as f**k when you made it through 8th grade math.

And I'd argue, in today's political climate, that this behavior is anything but unusual. Did you miss the Guns Across America rallies in every state capitol with people open carrying rifles in public?

Guns used to be MORE common in the US per capita 60 years ago than they are now. You could walk to your corner hardware store and buy a rifle, no background check needed. You could mail order rifles straight to your home, no FFL intermediary. No cool down periods, no NICS, no NFA restrictions on cool shit. Kids would have marksmanship clubs, and nobody thought twice when someone had a rifle in their school locker. Guns haven't changed. Guns were deadly back then and they still are today, because...get this...the design purpose of a firearm is to be deadly. That was true 150 years ago and it's the same design principle today.

What has changed is society. Half have been conditioned with an irrational fear of an inanimate object, and many choose to project that fear onto the law abiding citizens who own them. Our culture has traded personal responsibility and instilling good core values with vast swaths of violent media and an entitlement mindset. We have young men who are angry at the world for not handing them their dreams on a silver platter, and choose to go out with a bang.

And I feel there is no reason for you to be allowed to post on an internet message board. But guess what? My opinion doesn't mean shit, because our BoR protects your ignorance.

Depends on the situation.
I encountered a similar situation when I was on vacation in de USA a couple of years ago.
It was in a smaller local shop and there where actually 2 people with a automatic slung over their schoulder. I was was more like: cool.

If the same happend at my local store I would run like hell, seeing as gun are a big nono here.

you people who say "carry on" will be the first ones dead when a BAD crazy person (as opposed to the annoying crazy people) carry ar-15s into a store and start shooting the place up once they calmly walk to where they have a good vantage point to maximize casualties.

i, on the other hand, will briskly leave the store and find someplace else to shop, just in case bullets start whizzing.

so, did the joker get the full operation or just most of the transformation?

as long as he is not being careless with the weapon, no reason to be concerned.
seeing a full open carry should be a comfortable norm, not some paranoid fearful event.

I don't mind people owning an AR15, going to the range and shooting their AR15, etc.

But in my opinion there are only two types of people who would open carry an AR15 into the grocery store:

1) People who crave attention
2) People who want to shoot people

Both have mental issues so I'm afraid of both.

I guess there is another...

3) Those who would save us from #2, and potentially #1 if he/she finally snaps from not getting enough of the attention they deserve.
