Would you pay $6.5 million to get your kid into college?

Dang man. Community college FTW lol:

https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2019/03/12/college-admissions-cheating-scheme-fbi-presser-sot-vpx.cnn

Big scandal going on now:

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/co...ing-felicity-huffman-lori-loughlin/index.html

A bunch of celebrities are caught up in the scandal. RIP Full House:
Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky on "Full House," is facing the same felony charge -- conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, was also charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Giannulli allegedly "agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000" in exchange for having the couple's two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team despite the fact that they did not participate in crew, a complaint said.

The complaint includes emails between a cooperating witness and Giannulli in which the two discussed a "game plan" for his older daughter whose academic qualifications were at or below the "low-end of USC's admission standards."

Loughlin also wrote at least one email discussing their younger daughter and her admission, according to the complaint.

Giannulli and Loughlin were recorded on calls with a cooperating witness discussing an Internal Revenue Service audit being done on the business involved in the scam and that if ever asked, Loughlin would say they made a donation to the foundation, "end of story," the complaint said.

Dang man, I'm in the wrong business!

Much of the indictment revolves around William Rick Singer, the founder of a for-profit college counseling and preparation business known as "The Key."

"...what we do is we help the wealthiest families in the U.S. get their kids into school," Singer told one parent, according to prosecutors.

Singer was paid roughly $25 million by parents to help their children get in to schools, the US attorney said.

With $6.5 million I wouldn't even need to go to college. I am confident I can live on that the rest of my life and comfortably too.

No $0.00
Getting in is their problem, goal, achievement.
but I'll pay for wherever they want to go.

I told my kids I would buy them a car, let them continue living at home and pay for their books. The rest is up to them.

I'd argue that's not too different from "Legacy preference" for college admissions.

After college, getting a high paying government job is pretty much based on who you know, because if you got a friend or family member in high level government position, you can easily meet the criteria.

Thats chump change for some colleges. I have no doubt some of the $100M+ donations result in some strings being pulled for certain applicants

I don't understand how this is 'new' and people are being busted. This has been a thing for centuries. Did someone piss off someone with more money?

If they didn't do well in high school it's doubtful that they'll do well in college.
They weren't donating to the college they were bribing college employees.
The colleges were paying people to do their jobs honestly and they were lying and cheating.

Maybe they pissed off people with less money who couldn't afford the bribes.

This but with $1M bond for the one guy, the FBI thinks it's a big deal.

Any time you have money and power involved, it's recipe for corruption.

Even on the local level you have travel sports and all the politics that come along with it. Parental schmoozing and/or paying for private coaching even when you're not on the team - guess who makes the team the following year? I've seen it first hand.

The FBI even came down upon our local town gov't for a huge scandal too: https://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/mangano-corruption-retrial-1.28235925
Prosecutors had alleged Edward Mangano took bribes from restaurateur Harendra Singh that included a $454,000 “no-show” job for Linda Mangano, free meals and vacations, two luxury chairs, ash flooring for the couple’s bedroom, and a $7,300 wristwatch for one of their sons.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office also alleged Edward Mangano used his political clout after ascending to the top of Nassau’s government in 2010 to pressure Town of Oyster Bay officials into indirectly backing what amounted to $20 million in loans for Singh, a former self-described “restaurant mogul.”

In addition, the government claimed Edward Mangano also repaid Singh by steering two county contracts to him in 2012 that together were worth more than $400,000.

He's clearly bought his way into $7 or 8B.

What you should be concerned about is how those lefties, champions of fairness and diversity, circumvented the system to give their kids a leg up.

And this ain't P&N.

Huffman cuffed by FBI agents with guns drawn in early morning raid: report
Their daughter, Sofia, an aspiring actress who attends Los Angeles High School of the Arts, allegedly took the test in Dec. 2017
and got a score of 1420, a 400-point improvement from her first test, the LA Times reported.

WTF? So a black Honor student in FL improves her score by 300 and her test is flagged and not allowed to be released. But the rich white girl improves by 400 and SAT does not skip a beat?

lol - I have a 529 setup for my daughter to pay for college. But if she even wants to go out of state without massive scholarships/discounts, I won't give her a single dollar.

I don't allow people to be stupid with their money.

Kamilah Campbell's 320 leap from 900 to 1220 and Sofia Huffman's 1020 to a 1420 are both suspicious. (I think I have names correct) Kamilah was only accused of cheating and has a good chance of recovery if the "honor student" status is legitimate. Both 900 and 1020 and not "honor student" status scores. That said; I don't think these two cases are equivalent and this is not a racial thing. oh and Also; FL vs CA

Agreed, both look suspicious on the face of it. In the case of Kamilah though I agree burden of proof is on them - they shouldn't be declaring fraud until it can be proven.

Isn't 900 pretty bad for an honor student? Honor student says "I'm above average" - but 900 says "average". I guess I can also understand if you aren't prepared for the SAT that you can do much better the 2nd time after you get a handle on how best to work the test, time limits, type of questions, etc.
