Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away and a sunny spirit takes their place.

Who cares if there's humor? The notice got the point accross...there was a security breach on the forum.

Maybe some of you need to get a life outside of this message board...this forum is not your workplace and it is really not all that professional. Yes, there are Professional individuals here (myself included) from many industries, and there is a great deal of knowledgable and helpful advice/discussions...but, in the end, it is a community discussion board.

If this forum getting hacked causes you any alarm, then you need to rethink your approach to security/safety when browsing the web. If a malicious person got access to the DB for this forum, and you use the same password here that you use for the email address that's linked to your account as well as your banking and credit card websites, then you are at fault for not protecting yourself.

Frankly, I think everyone needs to relax. A bit of levity in the messages is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Is the forum critical to your job? Are you losing money due to the forums being down? If not, then relax and know they are doing everything they can to get it fixed.

Just my opinion though.

KT

Edit: poll fail

I totally agree!!

To those who say it`s not professional....
That`s just a lame ass way of looking at things!!

Actually I find it refreshing that Perk still has some humor left in him after having to deal with this latest nightmare which has afforded him and a few others very little sleep over the last couple of days.

My hats off to him.

I don't really care... I would if they were actually entertaining, but so far they've all been pretty stupid

While I don't particularly find them as humorous as they were designed to be, in the grand scheme of things, I really could care less if they are serious or humorous

Agreed here too. Those notices need to be more on the professional level, straightforward and understandable. I got a hint of who wrote it though, but not all of us are well educated to fully understand such creative writing.

I feel that the hack incident should not have been announced, but kept between the web team. Because the person or persons involved would know that AT is on to them, and may be eager to strike again.

This is a very professional website (which is true) and I feel the mods and admins should present themselves like professionals on occasions, this way their trust will remain intact. Of course they can revert back to casual mode after handling mod and admin related activities.

I find it more disturbing that people are so up in arms about something as trivial as these notices. I didn't find them particularly that funny, but it's their forums, and they can do what they want. I mean seriously, a poll for the notices, can't you find something meaningful to complain about.

That's my opinion.

I don't think it hurts anybody to talk about this and nobody is up in arm looking for heads to roll. To tell you the truth I think the moderating staff here does a wonderful job and I love this site.

No.
Back when they were "professional" they had assloads of problems and took forever fixing them. Now they have relatively few problems and fix them quickly.

I'm thinking the OP has a certain idea of what a "professional" is and he's probably wrong.
A professional, by definition, gets the job done. A professional car mechanic fixes your car. A professional accountant tracks your finances.
A professional IT does NOT come in here to give you a warm fuzzy. He comes in here to fix the forums, and lately they've been pretty on the ball. If you need a warm fuzzy from a professional then you should probably go back to kindergarden, since thats the only place I know of where a persons job description includes making you feel good about yourself.

If I want a good laugh, Ill go to the circus, not the AT notice board. I just don't like the notices the way they are now and wouldn't you know it, among those who care, it's about half and half on my side.

The mods are entitle to know how we feel about what they do. I am just making a suggestion on how, in my opinion, to improve the site.
As I said before, the people running this show do a great job and I love this site.

I'm curious if the "Don't Care" votes would have gone to Yes or No if those were the only options.

I voted yes, but then again there is nothing unprofessional about the notices. So a yes vote was for a continuation of the current notices. Keep up the good work perknose(assumed author of said notices).

OP, i think you are confusing professional with stodgy.
"excessively conventional and unimaginative and hence dull"

I love the ability to see who voted what. Looking over those who voted yes I see a lot of the same people that I've come to know as chronic whiners and complainers. Not all, about 75% though. Stodgy is a great description.

I see the poll as a personal attack on the forums. Since personal attacks are not allowed, this thread should be locked.

I agree with you, but I'm of course crazy and humorless for thinking SYSTEM NOTICES should be informative and not goofy. It's just part of a trend - TMZ/blog journalism ruling all... I'm not a big fan of that tone, it just reeks of "we don't really give a fuck."

Your post reeks. I'm kind of offended by your assertion there buddy. Perk and others behind the scenes have been busting their ass to keep this forum up and running over the last couple of days just so ingrates like you can sit on your rather large butts post about smoking dope and pass judgment on what's professional and what's not.

I, of course, appreciate the work of perk (who I have no idea who he is).. The thing is that YOU are the people who take criticism very poorly. Someone critiques and the mods here post inflammatory, rude things instead of just considering it. Sure, ignore our advice. That's fine. But to take it soo very personally and then lash out - LAME.. and unprofessional.

Do you think hosting some forum we just use to kill time during our work day makes you gods?

Why even have a suggestion box or PFI if the mods are just going to overpower every discussion? Shouldn't they opt out and let people share their opinions?

LOL, hell no. Don't think your constant sniveling is lame? It sure is annoying.
