No, it's not a valid excuse for anything. It's a valid reason for having been born with large enough equipment in other places so that you don't need to overcompensate in the arms. The fact that your self-esteem is tied up in how much chrome you can pick up and put down is quite frankly YOUR problem and you should not expect other people to share those same insecurities.
I started weight lifting to fend off late life diabetes and an early death at 59 like my father.
But thanks for playing the "he has something I don't so his penis must be small" game.
No zippy, I was playing the "he's so obsessed about something insignificant that he's actually clueless enough to look down upon people who don't share the same obsessions" game. You might have understood that if you had spent more time picking up books instead of weights. Funny how "dumbbell" means something so different to you than it does to me. I'm 6'1' 195 and still wear the same size clothes that I wore in college when I started in both football and baseball at a D1 school. Why on earth should I go into a gym and spend hours picking things up and putting things down again? What exactly is packing on unnatural body mass supposed to do for me? The fact that you do it is once again your problem and you're welcome to it. I'd never step into a gym and call you out for doing it,. The fact that you start such a ridiculous thread to feel superior to the people who don't share your obsession changes the equation though. You started it, you painted the target on your own artificially inflated chest, now you're crying when someone takes the shot you invited.

Seriously, anyone who has problems gaining weight follow these simple instructions:
1. Order out dinner every night, pizza preferably.
2. Never drink water, or any other liquid without sugar. Drink primarily mountain dew or coke.
3. Skip breakfast. This slows your metabolism and makes you gain more weight.
4. Start playing World of Warcraft and try to level to 70 in a week, only leave your computer to eat, pee, or sleep.
5. Buy a car, don't walk anywhere.
6. Always look for ways to be lazier. For example, out of coke? Don't drive to the store to buy coke, just order a pizza and have the pizza guy bring 2 2-liter bottles.
If you can't gain 15 lbs a month following those simple instructions, you are not human.

what's up with the need to be gigantic? Just being healthy and athletic is not good enough? Or does most american's job depend on their ability to flip small cars?
Obviously, he's passionate about something. It's the reason people do and excel in anything they don't need to be. His 19" arms have nothing to do with health, it's something he enjoys and wants to excel at because he has a passion, something in life beyond the mundane.Originally posted by: iamwiz82

It's an excuse for incredibly small genitalia? "Hey man, it's the 'roids!"

I still don't understand it for bodybuilding in particular, but it sure beats mediocrity.

I agree. I am just giving Amused a hard time.
At the same time, there are millions of people that don't enjoy working out, me being one of them. I'd rather do something constructive that happens to increase my health. Setting a personal record for cutting the grass, or placing 3 tons of retaining wall blocks are more my style.

Strangely, I've seen this play out in real life and it's no contest. Amused and his 19" arms remind me of a Captain I knew in the Army - he was a bodybuilder too, had a huge chest and we nicknamed him T Rex because of it. We also had a 6' 7" skinny (but fit) dude as our sergeant major, we nicknamed him Lurch for obvious reasons. Well, the two of them had an argument, and decided to go out behind some sand dunes to settle it. After seeing the results, never bet against the tall dude unless the short guy is Bruce Lee.

For my money it doesn't get any better than griping to a bunch of computer nerds about the evils of owning a gas guzzling SUV or truck.
