Obviously given the choice you'd pick Boeing since it's made in America and America is the best.

But to pick a distant second, would you rather fly on a plane like this or an Airbus?

Airbus:
Pros: ???
Cons: Terrible safety record, made in EU by a bunch of socialists. I'm scared to fly on these.

Russian Plane:
Pros: Hasn't been proven to be dangerous like the Airbus planes yet.
Cons: The worker putting it together was probably drunk.

Airbus A320 (Introduced 1988)

Russian Sukhoi Lame Jet (Introduced April 21 2011)

Whats the difference?

Is this a serious question or a joke? Russian aircraft are historically well-known for being mechanically unfit and hazardous in flight. Their attention to detail is lacking because Russians do not value human life.

But Airbus isn't any better :hmm:

In general I have no problem with any type of plane... (still a Boeing fan though)

And I find your thread tag to be insulting

How come? I just shot down 3 japs in IL2 and then made it back to base with half of my left wing missing

Damn, thats an old game.

I'm still curious as to where you found information stating that Airbus has a "terrible safety record". Is that in relation to Boeing, somebody else, or what? In general Boeing is fairly close to Airbus when it comes to accidents and such

They are probably pretty close, but Airbus has had some pretty bad crashes with test planes. There was that huge circus with the crash of their A320 test plane. The civil aviation authorities tampered with the black boxes after the crash before handing them over to police. The pilots were actually jailed for manslaughter though the circumstances around everything were very mysterious.

Keep in mind Airbus is half run by the governments. They basically fund the company's development programs.

Sorry OP. Airbus might have a different design philosophy but in general their planes are very safe.

I prefer A319/320 to 737s but Boeing widebody>>>>>Airbus widebody. Well, maybe not the A380...

This fails to specifiy that the Boeing planes have been in production and in service well before Airbus even existed, thats why they have more accidents. In addition, Boeing 737 is the most popular commercial jet, so there is also the fact that its more likely to be a Boeing 737 with a accident, simply because there is more of them.

Ive flat out refused flights on airbus planes before, but thats just me.

As in you refused to buy the ticket and selected another flight? Or showed up and just wouldn't board?

I'm more than willing to rearrange my schedule slightly to get on a better/more comfortable plane but thats totally different from intentionally avoiding a specific plane due to safety.

In the end if you've got an incompetent pilot or poorly prepared maintenance team (looking at you regional airlines..) you've got bigger problems.

To go further, look at the accidents, most of them are outside the US, so it's tough to compare the maintenance requirements/schedules/etc.
