would you rather sleep later, or get home from work earlier?

I can't decide which I'd rather do.

currently, I work Sunday-Wednesday, 8 am - 6 pm... there's a pretty good chance I'm going to have the opportunity to get off weekends in the near future, but in exchange, my boss wants me to give up my 4-day schedule and go Monday-Friday (and much as I love the 4-day workweek, it would be hard to turn down a title upgrade)

I can't decide if I'd rather do 8 am - 4 pm and get out of the office earlier (and especially, miss that 5 pm Sales/PM crunch time when all of a sudden they start getting antsy about their projects not being done yet), or 10 am - 6 pm and get to sleep later, and probably have a less crowded commute in the morning.

I would choose to get to work earlier and leave earlier. Some coworkers of mine go so far as to work 6:30 to 2:30.

My hours were 7am-3:30pm. I rather liked that. You still have some usable evening left, and as you said, you miss the traffic.

I'd give my left nut to be able to work Sunday-Wednesday and have 3 days off a week.

Right now, I normally work 7AM to 4PM but for the last 6 weeks ive been on 9AM to 6PM and for me, it's MUCH nicer to get off at 4. It really seems to give me more time to do stuff like mow the lawn when i get off.

Right now, I get off and its 8PM by the time i get home, get dinner ready etc... so I'm really looking forward to getting those 2 hours back in the evening.

Well given you weren't even working 40 hours a week... that might have something to do with it. (only applies if it was a full time position)
But as for what I do, I typically picking waking up later since I feel more rested after sleeping 6-8 hours and waking up at 8 than I do waking up at 6:30-7:30.
Note that I do live close to where I work so travel time isn't really a factor.

The second times hours as you mentioned would also save you a significant amount of travel time.

sleep later. i worked from 6am - 2pm for 10 years and never got used to it. sure, you have a "whole day" to do stuff after work, but youre so tired you just want to relax. then you have to sleep by 9 when everyone else is still up and doing stuff.. and at 2 in the afternoon NOBODY has time to do anything anyway.

i hated it. last years i worked banker hours, 9am to 5pm. it was bliss. i felt like every day was a weekend.

I'm amused in that I find getting to sleeping and going to work at 8 to be "sleeping in." Though my day doesn't officially begin until 8am, I'm there by 6:30-6:45 am every day. It's wonderful to get up in the morning, go outside & have a cup of coffee while feeding bottles to the babies, and watching the sun rise.

I'd rather do something like 05:30-14:00. I don't know if I'd even take a job that started after 07:00 or so.

I work 0530 to 1600 4 days a week and would not change voluntarily. When we have refueling outages it changes to 0530 to 1900 six days a week and this sucks.

Sunday - Wednesday (4 days) * 8 am - 6 pm (10 hours) = 40 hours/week

No it is not, that is in building of wherever you work 40 hours a week not 40 hours of work.
There is a very big difference between the two.
Where I work one gets you fired.

I start at 1pm and go home at 9pm. I quite enjoy it since I'm not a morning person. I don't hit traffic going in or coming home, I've got plenty of time in the morning to do what I need to do, and I still got time when I get home before I need to go to bed. The days go by pretty quick working afternoons.

When I used to work 7:30am to 6pm, I hated it. Not only was it a long day, you were exhausted by the time you got home. I was not a fan of getting up at 6:30 and going to bed at 10.

Sleep later. My body does not function no matter how early I sleep. I have to get up after 10am, otherwise I feel like shit all day.

My schedule also revolves around prime time and late night TV, so...

Go in earlier and be done with it IMO. There's really nothing to do after 8 or 9pm anyways. Unless you like bars/parties.

I'm scheduled for 40 hours/week and I'm in the office for 40 hours/week and I'm generally working (even now while posting on ATOT, I'm just waiting on a process to complete on my second screen)... if there's a person out there who literally does 40 hours of work/week and doesn't devote a single minute to staring out the window, going to the bathroom, or taking a personal phone call, I'd love to find that sad SOB.

I work 6 to 2:30 and I hate the schedule. I am in favor of anything that involves more sleep, but I am a person that needs lots of sleep and hates mornings.
