I only have 2 drives in my system and they are on the SATA 6Gps ports. So this bug will not affect me at all. So no panic here, and yes I would build another SB system if I did not use more than 2 drives.

As for resale value, well, when I upgrade to LGA2011 in Q4, I will simply RMA my current MB at that time, then sell it as a "New" board and make back most of my money.

Sure this news was a little disturbing at first, but now that I know the facts, it is only a small bump in the road. And I am still loving my SB machine now.

Bros,

Exactly the way I feel.... Leveled headed and not putting the death and despair into the mix... This may only affect 5 percent to maybe 15 percent of the boards with this chipset and that being over 3 years, which most replace their system before 3 years anyway... Getting a couple years to 3 years usage out of a Mobo and I feel like I got my money out of it... I would build this setup again if I had to do it again...

the issue wouldn't bother me. if i was in the market for a new rig right now and i'd decided to go with sandy bridge, i would do so anyway; you can still get the cpus and mobos from ebay and you can still buy the cpus at microcenter (luckily there's one near me). i would either just try to get a board with enough sata 3 ports (currently using 2 sata hdd's in raid 0 but an ssd would be a nice upgrade, maybe a new sata dvd burner or blu-ray drive), or just get an add-on sata controller card. problem solved.

I wouldn't say its a risk as the chip and the p67 chipset seem reliable and I like its features. The problem that they are concerned about is the Sata II ports which really isn't a concern to me right now. Plus they (Intel) have addressed this with respect to us, the consumer. When the new boards (currently Gigabyte as my board) come out I will replace it because they have offered it to us.

why are a bunch of you spending money on a PCI Sata controller? Why not just use the Sata6.0 ports on your mobo and use the Sata3.0 for a ODD if necessary? We're talking about 5-15% chance of failure over 3 YEARS - and worst case is IF it fails in next few months, it will just be unrecognized by your mobo and THEN you can buy the Sata PCI card. But most likely it won't fail by then and you'll get a whole new mobo by April/May anyway.....

I'm just wondering, that's all......seems like a waste even if its only $25

Not a bad point, i guess I figured $25 on top of $700 was no big deal. DAMN nay sayers sucked me in even if I was on the "meh" no big deal side of the fence I was putting off my build till card arrives but my OS will be on the SATA3, and my STEAM drive too. so my storage and DVD will be on the SATA II.. not to scarry. Im just dang excited to try my first SDD!

4 reasons, really:

1. so that they don't have to worry about the problem at all. 0% chance of failure instead of 5-15% in 3 years. buy the card and don't think about it anymore. (it's an easy, effective solution)

2. its seamless; there's no functional difference to the user between using a sata add-on card and using the boards ports (assuming the boards ports arent defective).

3. so they don't have to play the whole 'send the board back and get a replacement then rebuild my entire rig' game. (ease/convenience)

4. it's only $25.

if intel didn't do a full recall, any large-scale manufacturer would make an absolute killing by selling SB rigs with SATA pci/pci-e cards in them; they'd effectively be the only manufacturer selling the best chips available.

Thanks. A bit of reassurance is always nice when ordering from a new e-tailer.

I went with the GIGABYTE P67A-UD4.
http://www.beachaudio.com/Gigabyte-T...p-436975.html?

Never used www.beachaudio.com before, but they have a great seller rating on Google seller reviews, so I'm pretty confident they're a decent retailer.

http://www.google.com/products/sell...D8X7lwe0_9Ez&ved=0CEYQqQwwAA&biw=1280&bih=891

My card has been charged, so hopefully it'll ship soon.

Same board I got, if i could do over I might have got the ASUSrock bit cheaper and from my readings it might be a tad better OC'er.. but I cant complain about any GB I have had and from my reading on it, should be a Good to great board.

Brand preference is pretty much why I went with it. I've read about a lot of people having problems with the ASUS boards. I almost went the ASRock, but I figured I'd just stick with the GIGABYTE board. Not too concerned about the extra features the ASRock had. They both performed nearly identically in benchmarks, and that's what I was most concerned about.

I can understand 3) driving the others for people who want to just look past the issue completely and not worry about having to re-do their mobo in the future. I guess if you weigh $25 vs your time to pull out the old mobo, reinstall the new one, risk that something else doesn't work on the new mobo, maybe gas/time going back to Microcenter and/or the post office to ship back to Newegg.....yeah I guess I can see it.

Too bad Intel wouldn't give a second option which is they will pay you $20 in cash and you will forfeit your rights under the recall/Sata port issue. I'll bet lots of people would do that especially if that effectively covered their cost of buying the PCI card, and Intel might save some money too.

My order shipped from Beach Audio. Awesome.

Looks like I'll get to do my Sandy Bridge build after all.

I've just ordered a motherboard, CPU, RAM and new DVD drive (old one was PATA). I can hardly wait for it to arrive so I can get rid of my P4!

I'm not even using an optical drive in my SB build. My plan is to just install Windows 7 from a flash drive, or just connect an optical drive long enough to install. After that, it'll be yanked out. And in the rare event I actually have to burn something to disc, I'll just use an external writer.

I barely ever use the optical drive, so it'll be nice to have a couple less cables to organize.

Hey... I'm designing a 90° case with that sort of thing in mind... ~19.5" long, 18" high, 2 3.5 externals for card readers and such, 3x 3.5 internal (could be expanded to at least 6, but I don't need that). Nothing else but the PSU, mobo with enough room for any video card(s) up to 13" and 3x 160mm fans in the bottom, 1x 120mm at the top.

Been wondering if there was enough interest in a "small" 90° case like this to get a shop to do a complete run.

We've got several ppl here who are heavily into graphic rendering and gaming, they run high-end i7 9**/X58's, certainly a proven powerhouse.

The LGA2011/x68 later this year will be the true 'big daddy' of the future.

I just bought an Asus P67 Sabertooth. I do not plan to RMA it because of the hassle. It already has 4 SATA ports which will be more than enough for me. I plan to only have a 1 TB drive and no optical drives. I do not plan to upgrade for another 3 years and the Sabertooths come with a 5 year warranty. I may RMA before I sell; but then again the process might not be worth it considering in 3 years these motherboards will have lost value.

I'm in Pakistan. I browsed everywhere until I went directly to the wholeseller. They only had one P67 Mobo left and I got a special discount for it. Got it for $240.
