Would you support vigilante justice if the victim was someone close to you?

Say it was your dad/mom/brother/sister/son/daughter/etc that was the victim of a crime, would you support vigilante justice (possibly even homicide)?

EDIT: Assume the criminal got off on a technicality but you're 100% certain that they are the perp.

EDIT2: Would you support vigilante justice (possibly homocide) if it were someone close to you that were the perpetrator of a crime?

If the justice system failed, I might be tempted to inflict some Punisher type justice.

Forgot to add that stipulation at the beginning.

Depends on the crime. If someone stole money, who cares, intentionally caused them physical or mental harm? They wouldn't make it to court.

I support vigilante justice for all victims, and especially the ones close to me. Of course I'd kill the bastard.

There is no justice like vigilante justice..

If our society was more like the vigilant society of our forefathers, 9/11 could never have happened. There is no way in hell our society ever should have become so pussified that a small group of 4 men should hold an entire plane of people hostage with box cutters. Flight 93 only reacted after they heard they were certainly dead on a cell phone.. That's BS. None of the planes should've been hijacked if the average person was willing to be a little more vigilant.

The more vigilant our society becomes, the better. I'm all for vigilante justice.. Though, I'll admit sometimes the 'crowd' makes mistakes.. but so does law enforcement.

NO! Vigilante justice is a lynch mob looking for a convenient n****r to string up because an unmarried white girl got pregnant.

To ^^, there is a difference between self-defense and vigilantism. I agree our society should be more concerned and active in our own individual self-defense, but not in the enforcement of vigilante justice.

Depends on the crime. If somebody steals the radio out of my car and gets away with it in the legal system, I'll chalk it up to bad fortune. If somebody rapes my wife and walks, he'd best avoid dark alleys and open spaces.

You know the problem with Vigilanteeism is that it can get carried away so quickly. And one can forget that the person being targeted for the "so called justice" or payback is a human being too. All too often even the victim has misidentified their attackers, or perpetrators and innocent people have been wrongly accused. So I would have a hard time saying yes, to this. However, if someone personally attacked me and I for a fact knew who it was, or I knew without a doubt, for a fact, conclusively who it was that attacked a family member of mine, or close friend I can't say those thoughts wouldn't cross my mind. I am human also with all the human emotions to boot.

I do believe in Karma... and have seen it work. I also know from first hand experience that some of the crimes that are committed such as mothers killing their babies, or other such type crimes, stem from a person who is/was severly mentally ill who never received the care or help they should have prior to them committing the sad and heinous crime. The signs of their mental instability were all there for all long time but family and friends did not take the appropriate action. So in effect I feel that it is the family and surrounding community and not just these mentally ill people who are at fault for these type crimes. Prevention and intervention is so important here.

Sometimes I wish our society would put more money and research into mental illness in this country and do more to fund the psychiatric hospitals and state psychiatric facilities to help people like this, or at the least keep these type people incarcerated indefinitely and away from the public should they have the potential to cause harm to themselves or others.

Except that you wouldn't get away with it. The police aren't stupid. They'd be at your door the minute the perp was reported missing, and it is extremely unlikely that you, Mr. Good Guy, could convincingly lie your way through a police interrogation.

It sucks, but the rule of law doesn't always make life fair. Whether revenge is worth going to prison over is up to you - but you will go to prison.

I support vigilante justice regardles of who the victim is. If it's 10)% certain that the person did it and they didn't get convicted, then they should be hunted down. Again, this is assuming you know 100% for certain that the person is the one who commited the crime.

I'm pretty much in support of anything that might get the crime rate down for murder, rape, theft, etc.

Would I take the law into my own hands? Yes.

Would I expect to go to prison, possibly even executed for taking it into my own hands? Absolutely.

Only if the said vigilante agrees that his own life will be forfeit after the fact via either imprisonment, or court ordered death sentence or suicide. If said vigilante is not willing to trade his own life, then he should take his mental anguish and deal with it internally.

Yessir. The criminal will be dead before he hits the ground, which in fact may also be before my weapon hits the ground.

I'll put 2 in his chest drop my weapon and surrender to authorities.
