From the time a person starts in school till the time a person retires.
168 hours in a week subtract apx. 1/3 (52) hours for sleep = 116 subtract apx. 60 hours for work or school including prep time and travel = 56 subtract apx. 2 hours per day for meals, meal prep and food gathering - 14 hours = apx. 40 hours for yourself and the people you care about.
So, I only get one fourth of my life to do what life is really for.
If anyone wants any of my 25% it is going to costs more than 15%.
.
I go to a job I don't like every day. Why wouldn't I take a raise?
Because for the OP the raise would be for a position he'd like even less than his current one. Considering what he indicated the raise would be, I'm guessing he's not especially hurting for more money.
When you get to a certain point in salary, money is far from everything.
Oh gotcha
Until I get a job as a cop, I'll always dislike my job. And I'll never get a job as a cop

This new position could be the first step in changing your career path. This year might be a 15% raise but future raises and bonuses will be larger and 401K match if offered will be more.
This could be a step into a managerial type role where a bigger better position is next in line.
I've never shied away from taking on more responsibility as long as I knew my resume would reflect the title and tasks.
Don't be shortsighted!

If you are a comfort-zone person then stay there; lots of people hungry for advancement that you don't want to fight withRight now I'm trying to decide whether I want to take a position that will give me about an 8% raise. I don't know if it's simply because I've gotten used to working where I am (sometimes a "comfort zone" is nice) or a weird sense of job loyalty, but it seems rather inane for me to stay on a project that drives me fucking bonkers.

Never. In fact I find the less responsibility, the better the job. Screw this notion that you need to move up in the world. If you are happy with a job and it pays the bills then that's what counts. You spend a good chunk of your life working, may as well make it as pleasant as possible. Retirement is not really something to count on with this economy. Companies are cutting retirement funds, government is cutting retirement programs etc...
