Would you trust dental students?

A friend "forgot" to go the dentist for about 4 years. Now she needs 4 crowns and 15 fillings. And she has no dental insurance. Grand total: over $4k.

One option is a local dental school. They're cheap. But they're STUDENTS!!

What to do...

well, i guess it depends on how much experience those students have. Is there any way to find out?

I needed a root canal when I was in college and had to go to the U. of Pittsburgh dental school because that was all I could afford. It was fine. YMMV.

Dad was talking about doing that the other day. I guess if you have no insurance it not a bad deal.

kinda curious, how cheap is cheap?

I want to have dental implants, but they are very expensive. I want to have all my teeth replaced. The cost is around $1500 per implant. I was thinking about calling dental schools in Houston to see if they could do it at a drastically reduced rate if grad students/med students would do it...

I forgot to answer the question. Yes. I would trust students that are about to graduate. They have to start somewhere...

I know here at UCLA spring-ish there was flyers up for free dental work, essentially the people who were graduating needed patients for their final exam, now you had to go and be pre-screened (whatever that entailed) to get the free dental work, but it was from people who were about to graduate. So it also too a little longer (you had to go in, be screened, go home, be accepted, come back at a later time). YMMV. Personally I would had taken them up on the offer, if I wasn't still under my parents health insurance.
