No, it's a stupid philosophy. It's just as looney as communism.

Why?

And yeah, I would. Sadly, my state kind of would make an issue about it really counting. I could help with the whole 5% thing though, I suppose.

They are two sides of the same coin, extremist philosophies that elevate one part of society over all others. Communists believe that the state and only the state should make the decisions for society. Libertarianism merely replaces the "state" with private business. The truth is that reality lies in between the two extremes of these world views and that wholesale adoption of either one quickly leads to problems. The state is much better at addressing some issues, while a market is often better than the state at others. I want a leader who will actually think and try to make intelligent decisions using a combination of state and market, instead of just relying on some ideology to make the decision.

Rabid ideologues are bad, mmmmmkay? Compromise is good.

If one idea could magically solve all our problems we would have adopted it already.

If you take any political extreme then it will be bad, sure it simplifies things but life isn't simple, so you need compromise like you said. In my observations govt. does a crappy job at practically anything, everything has dimenishing returns with the government and to compensate, they have to have wildly stretched budgets to accomodate this so that anything meaningful can be produced/shown. But if the businesses do everything then they'll do it for the sole benefit of helping the company, while stepping on others to achieve that goal, thats why compromise is cruical. One problem though is that these days the boundaries between business and government have become so blurred that they've essentially become one identity and are controlling the people.

I'll vote for someone who (a) is not a cocksucking dirt bag ( that rules all rep's andmost all dem's) or (b) someone is has no chance of winning as a vote of dissent against the curernt political climate.

So, yes... I'll vote lib. or green if I like the candidate.

I might have to break my rule in 08. Even if the dem's run some asshat for president I might have to vote for them in the hope that we don't have another Bush in the white house.

Fvck, I hate politics.

I've voted Libertarian when possible in the last few elections, and although I often disagree with the Green platform, I'd rather vote for them than R or D.

Yes, I would and I will be this upcoming election. Bruce Guthrie (L) took out a $1.2 million loan to get into the televised debates so hopefully that will increase his numbers a decent amount. One of the reasons people don't vote third party is because they've never heard of the person running.

About my vote being "wasted"...well really it's no more wasted than the majority of the other votes out there. Most elections (state and national) are essentially decided from the start so your vote really doesn't count that much. There are some exceptions of course (WA governor race '04) but for many of them, there is little reason to go out and vote.

Why vote on party basis? Why label people as liberal or conservative? Are people that simple?

Can't people have lots of views that don't necessarily fit into one group or another?

Communist Nazi? Do you have a clue as to what you're talking about?

 Don't you know they are the same thing. Silly Rabbit. A commie is a read Nazi. That is why they are both state run systems. HHEHEHEHEHEHEHE ... Uh seriously I would vote democrat just because I want one house of congress to be democrat (and I am a fricking Republican) just so the executive branch is slowed down in its approach to monarchy.

And Yes I think Hamburgerboy was being a weeeeeeeee bit satirical and you are also being a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit satirical (I hope).

I simply vote for whomever I feel is the best candidate for the job. I don't give a flying fvck what party they belong to.

Politics in the US cannot become pluralist until we change the voting system to something like approval voting (yes or no for each candidate) or instant-runoff voting (rank candidates, count the highest ranked selection as the vote for that ballot; if no majority, eliminate last place candidate and recount until someone has a majority). (I don't know if anyone asked the question, but that's part of the answer.)

I try to vote for a libertarian (lower case) when I have the choice; sometimes, the Libertarian Party candidate doesn't ascribe to my style of libertarianism; I affiliate with no party at all for a good reason.

Unfortunately, party politics doesn't work like that.

I voted for Harry Browne (Libertarian with an unfortunate name) in '96 and '00. I didn't care much for the '04 LP candidate. I tend to vote LP when there are candidates available because I'm disgusted with the "other two".

libertarians are closest to my political ideology (fiscally and socially conservative on most issues), so i vote for them when available.

green party is way too socialist for my tastes, plus i dont have much respect for it since its only real claim to fame is that its the popular underdog/counter-culture/f'the system vote.

Yes, because that might be who I want to win...."wasted vote" be damned. Perhaps if everyone would stop being so concerned about "wasting their vote", then perhaps some 3rd party candidate could have a real shot...or atleast show that such a party is gaining formidable strength, such that they have a chance at winning the next election.

Mmmm, depends. I'm not clear where they stand on the border issue.
They WERE for an completely open unrestricted border. Lately though they've changed that standing to be for a locked down border.

I'm not sure if their just pandering for support or actually concerned with the border issue.

As such, I'll stick with Republicans.

By that (lack of) logic, you should just vote for the expected winner in every race, since voting for an expected loser is just "wasting your vote".

It's absurd people actually think like this. I hate pre-election polling and ignore it as much as possible. I vote for the person closest to my political ideology (more or less libertarian), and don't give a d@mn whether that person actually has a shot. I've voted third party before and likely will do so again.

Libertarianism is fundamentally flawed. So no. Green party, I would if the candidate were right. Certainly not someone like nader who would make a terrible, terrible president.

No way will I vote for a victocrat though.

funny. I see the Democrats as more libertarian than Republicans, even more so since so many Republicans feel like their the morality police over the last few years.

And Republicans are more in love with big government than Democrats, particularly the parts of big government that control people's lives.

anyway, I wouldn't vote Libertarian, anyone who would must not read their platform because it is wacked. They aren't actually libertarian, calling themselves that is fraud.

The Green party at least is honest.
