i mean, think about it...if you can cool the air with a fan, condensor, and evaporator and a little freon, then y cant you cool your computer like this???? anyone???

why bother making your own or buying one? you see that car accross the street, i'm sure it has one the owner doesn't use anymore, go jack that one! j/k.....but can't you go to an old car junkyard, get all the equipment and then by a freon replcement pack?

I work with auto mechanics all day and have 3 of them working this out for me. The problem is compressing the r134a(the easy to get version of freon)quietly. In the long run, I'd probably be better off going to Wally word and buying one of those cheap room ACs for $150

yea...i guess that would be a problem...id have no problem getting the parts as my dad owns a shop, but maybe ill just go for a hommade watercooling setup

Watercooling would be just a tad quieter...you know, no need for some huge 2ft floor fan on the side of the computer or anything...

If I have the resources, I would build a computer case like a refrigerator(or freezer?) and floppy, CD Rom, etc. drives with opennings will be mounted on the refrigerator doors and insulated from the other parts. All external wires can go through a rubber sealed hole on the side. Since everything is cooled, this case will not need fans. This thing can avoid condensation problem as long as the refrigerator(or freezer) uses existing frost-free technology.

Does anybody want to build one?!

CZ - I can't find the link but it's been done.

There is a fellow that goes by Case over at Hard Forums who is working on his own version of the Vapochill. I should be a couple hundred less and be able to support SMP. Vapochill has indefinitely postponed their SMP box.

A couple of years ago there was a custom PC builder that was doing this with overclocked K63-400's and 450's. They worked out everything including case design, location of cooling components, etc - even the condensation issue with the coils - took about 10 minutes for the thing to boot if I remember correctly.

Most of these designs have been focusing on cooling the processor. My question is why not cool everything except drives with opennings? The case should be easier to build. But it will use more power, as much as a 25'cu freezer.

cz, couldn't you just buy a very small freezer or refridgerator and modify it??? i think that would be easier than making you own

It wouldn't be easy. Firstly those small freezers or refrigerators are not powerful enough to cool a computer and I have not seen one small one uses frost-free technology. Secondly it would be very difficult to make everything air tight after drilling holes everywhere.

what do you mean not powerfull enough, just have your cpu fan blowing on there, thats chilled air, around 10/15C that seems fine to blow on a CPU to me! my ambient is 30, another 15 degrees would help ALOT. yeah, a room AC would work good just have that blow directly through your system...or for those of you with the AC moutns on the ground, set your system next to that, and duct it to go through it!
