WoW @ 2560 x 1600

I've been lusting after a 30" monitor recently and I was wondering what else I would need to upgrade if I wanted to run WoW at 2560 x 1600. My specs are up-to-date in the sig.

I am hoping that I can grab a GTX280 and slap it in my current system.. would that be enough for acceptable frames in 25 man raids?

Sure you could get a GTX280 to get higher FPS but you'll need to overclock that processor of your's to feed it the info it needs. You could easily at least get it to 3.2 with almost no effort.

Yep, I have a good cooler on it. (AC 7 Freezer) I used to have it overclocked but I leave it at default now as i really don't play anything that i can't run.

Do you think i'd be ok with just overclocking the CPU and upgrading graphics? Or do I need a new mobo and perhaps SLI.

A good single gpu card should be enough, WoW isn't really all that graphically intensive once you hit a certain point in gpus, the cpu however should definitely be OCed.

Agreed. I really think a GTX260 c216 or a 4870 1gb would be fine.

In my own experience playing on a 24" LCD, in tough areas (Dalaran) - the GPU is almost never the bottleneck. For example, I get under 30fps in these areas with no AA, and with 4x AA. And that's overclocked to 3 GHz... Granted, I have a fair number of mods (X-Perl, Titan, Auctioneer, QuestHelper, QuestGuru, MobMap, Recount, etc...

LOL, I think the engine isn't very well multithreaded, and is almost never GPU bound.

It all depends, when I play at 2560x1600 with full shadows and everything, fps can drop below 20 in certain areas. Usually just messing around in Naxx or w/e Itll be 100fps but flying around in Grizzly Hills type area I see fps below 20 (because of shadows). In Daly itll be around 30-100fps depending on the time of day.
