Looked awesome in win9x, it re-booted win2k (dual boot, same machine)

Whats with all the text labels floating around? not the slogans, but labels like rot1 and prodkt near items on the screen?

If you watched the whole thing it was pretty funny towards the end, like they made this thing at a party, and then had this to say

<< future versions should be smaller than party versions >>

and also said something about a divx version of the demo ;^)

It looked amazing for a 64kb file!

If games were compressed that much...we wouldn't need 70GB hard drives...well, maybe for the porn, but you know what I mean.

I wish I could see what all the fuss is about; I get "a required DLL file is missing" error message. Downloaded it twice, too.

Michael D Download DirectX 8 from Microsoft. I had the same problem.

You'll be amazed! DirectX 8 download 10.9 Megs...demo is only 64K. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Pretty amazing that they could fit all those textures into that little space. The orginal EXE is highly compressed. Of course the music is MIDI, not MP3. In the these days of games that take up almost one gig of storage to install, stuff like this is highly impressive.

I just wet myself.

Brought my Savage4 to humility. Gonna try it on my ATI now. Gotta love dual monitors.

Anyone buying the software? Hell, I'd use it just for the compression engine. 5000 MP3s on one CD.

I don't think this thing compresses as much as you think. In practice, it is extremely rare to achieve an 8 to 1 compression ratio let alone something higher than this.

First off, this is all rendered in real time. So all the objects that you see could easily be generated by functions in the program. Notice that the objects are all basic geometric objects as well - or objects that could easily be generated by mathematical functions. It takes less space to have a function y=x for a line or to draw triangles, than it is to store a bitmapped object. And if you notice the textures that are used are very blurry and are probably extremely small in file size and in actual resolution.

I don't doubt that there was some really great programming going on, but there's nothing miraculous either.

Notice that this is very processor/video card intensive - this helps to confirm my beliefs about the program. Rendering objects using functions, while taking up less space in terms of program size, ends up being very processor intensive.

OK maybe there is a trick to the video *cough*bullsh!t*cough*

But what about the music?????
That can't be faked.

After seeing and hearing it I need to change my undies.

This is the kind of tech that gets people killed.

Yeah, it's cool but technically it is just something between Postscript and Shockwave, n'est ce pas? Or put it another way it's like graphics MIDI 'cause it has instructions what to render, not the actual scenes themselves.

Even if you try to relate this to shockwave, it's only 64K!

Find me a shockwave demo that will play for 15 minutes and is under 64k. Plus you need to download the shockwave player or postscript viewer....
