I never in a million years thought that I'd be saying this but... Right now it looks like 8800 Ultra is worth purchasing! I remember when they first came out at the price of $800, sane people kept saying that it was an ultimate rip-off, which it was, considering it was only faster by around 10-20% than a regular GTX, which cost hundreds less.
But today it looks a lot different. I found an Ultra clocked at 660mhz core and 2300mhz memory for... 594.99 after a $20 rebate. Thing is, the cost of an average 8800 GTX with clocks of 575mhz core and 1800mhz memory now is ~$550. Now, the Ultra's memory is 500MHZ higher than the GTX's which is impossible to overclock by yourself, whether you have air or water cooling, it won't be stable. Also as a bonus you receive a free game wich retails for $40 - Company of Heroes, so in the reality, why would you not pay an extra $5 for the card which performs faster than a GTX sometimes by as high as 20%.
If you were planning to buy an 8800 GTX in the near future, you should really consider getting an 8800 Ultra at this price instead:
