is 101.41 nvidia's latest (less than mediocre) attempt at forceware?

Isn't 101.41 beta?

I'm having no problems with 100.65 in Home premium 64 bit. albeit the performance is still not quite there with XP, close though

That's why it sucks to be an early adopter of Vista......it is going to take awhile for things to get where XP is today. I personally am waiting at least a year before upgrading to Vista, even though my system can more than handle it.

I would have waited on the upgrade too but I got in on the tiger direct deal, Free Vista HP 64bit with an FX60 for $379. I couldnt refuse. I wanted more horsepower for my 8800GTX than my previous 4200 X2 was capable of, and I really didnt want to go through the trouble of a C2 duo swap. New mobo, new ram , new processor versus New processor and free Vista 64bit

Given the current state of G80 XP drivers I'm not sure why you were expecting Vista to be any better.

being an early adopter of XP was no cakewalk either

but i have to run Vista; i need to know the tech (same with XP, linux). i certainly expect some issues, but it's far too much work to try and get nvraid working (how many nforce chipsets are out there?), any soundblaster products (tho current x-fi is somewhat workable), etc. common stuff (i'm not even talking gaming or dx10). dreamscene caused BSOD (tho i got that working finally).

i mean, texas holdem is even bugged? disappointing.

early adopter here too. the newest beta 101.41 drivers suck. Nvidia dll's keep recovering from fatal errors. switched back to 100.65 and they are fine. not as good as XP drivers. at least in XP you can OC and getter framrates.

Yup, both 101.41 & 100.65 are Beta drivers. I myself am not having problems with 101.41 drivers but I guess the anti nV driver parade is still in full swing with some people.

So then CaiNaM, what's the problem with 101.41 that you've got or is there no point in your post?

100.65 is not a beta. But don't install beta drivers especially ***nvidia*** beta drivers they will damage your card.

I'm actually still running v97.92 & aside from the 1:1 scaling issue its working fine for me in XP so I havn't bothered switching.

My main PC is set up to dual-boot XP Pro & Vista Ultimate (32-bit), but the only reason I've even used Vista at all so far is because I also need to be familar with it so I can work on PC's running it more easily & frankly I've forgotten which NV driver I installed as a result!

CaiNam, roll back over to the 100.65 WHQL. I had a lot of problems with 101.41 which I never experienced with 100.64/100.65. I've heard that installing 101.41 over existing 100.65 is OK contrast to common belief, though. (instead of uninstalling previous drivers then installing the new ones)

Not to fan any fanboy flames or anything, but this whole debacle has made me glad that I stuck of my X1900XT. Got it for $330 about a year ago, couldn't be happier

Yep beta,I'm staying with the latest official ones,do remember XP has had almost 7 years of driver updates, so don't expect Vista to be right up there after only 6 weeks, however Nvidia has promised improvements and regular updates for Vista.

I'll say Vista is in a much better state then XP ever was when it was only 6 weeks old.

To be fair, the XP drivers are in a pretty sorry state of affairs as well. There's no six week excuse for that one. I'm sure nvidia will get their drivers worked out eventually, but since they don't even seem to be working on the XP drivers I'm not exactly excited about how they're handling things.

I use 100.65 and have no problem... I even have two instances of WoW open at once (one on each monitor, so they're both being refreshed at the same time) with the highest graphical settings and I still get around 40-60fps on each.

People should realize, once you install something that says "BETA", you revoke your right to complain.

read my previous post.

That post wasn't there when I opened the thread. Read it & I will now try Texas Holdem (haven't gotten round to that one yet) to see if it gives me any errors.

@Aberforth, if you check on the nVidia site it will tell you that 100.65 is a Beta driver.

curious ... is there *anyone* regular here that does NOT play PC Video games?

isn't that kinda the usual 'purpose' of a Video card?
:Q

--besides *work*?

i also know there is a tiny percentage of HW 'elitists' that only "play" 3DMark0X ... and run game benchmarks ...

but MOST of us play video games ... if not, i would still have a radeon 64DDR.

Well, I checked, and I still see the word WHQL. If you're referring to the stupid we-are-not-responsible-for-these-drivers-in-any-way-shape-or-form disclaimer, that's truly an awful statement by nVidia, but it does not indicate that 100.65 is a beta driver. 100.64, on the other hand, was a beta driver because it was marked as Beta instead of as WHQL.

EDIT: Changed bold to italics--didn't want to appear rude.

To be fair I'm using Vista x64 and the official Nvidia drivers are ok for my gaming, the only obvious thing is lack of Nvidia Control Panel features,to be expected for now.
