a no go for me...i currently play $297 for 6 months on my 99 maxima se, versus a $477 quote from esurance. it probably helps that my current insurance policy is older than i am (inherited from my dad's old insurance policy).

Does anyone know anything about this insurance company? Ever have to file a claim with them? They are cheaper than what I'm paying with Progressive but I love Progressive's customer service. I have filed a claim with them and they were great. That is an important factor when selecting isurance companies.
Any help is appreciated.

esquared...heh only 6 more years for my 19 year old ass!

Right now I'm on my parent's plan...which bumps their plan up another $1000...to over $3000 a year lol...I think it's $34xx or something like that.

Of course this is in new york city(even though I don't go to college in NYC which is ridiculous that I have to pay NYC prices...apparently it's damn near impossible to get the insurance elsewhere without a permanent address there...ugh). Plus it's a new car with comprehensive and that kicks it up a notch.

The only good thing is that once I get my own car(kind of had one for like a week lol...then it got donated...hmmm...) it'll only be another $300 to add it to the plan...

So I'm only gonna cost an extra $1300 if I stay on my parents plan, versus attempting to get my own insurance...which would run a LOT higher(I looked...it wasn't pretty lol)

I think I will go with Progressive; they offered a great low quote... There's a 20 and 21 yr old sharing a convertible in California... My goodness - the insurance really is high, but Progressive quoted something like $1700 for the year which is very impressive and almost half as much as the other companies

FireGal, they are very good with claims. Quick and painless.

As for why guys under 25 have such as rates, I always wondered that too. As for driving skills, I think girls in general are not as good as guys. You know, that eye/hand coordination thingie. :Q I think what makes it bad for guys (in general) is we tend to drive fast (cause accidents?)which I think that's what they based the rates on.

I've been a customer of esurance since December 2001. The quote they gave me ($1090 per year) was $200 cheaper than everybody else, so I took the plunge. My experience so far has been good, though I had no accidents or tickets so far to test them (knock on wood!)

There are a few quirks you should be aware of. They claim to be a "totally electronic" company, so you will not receive anything by mail... instead, all the files, papers, insurance card, etc. are available in PDF format for you to print out. This can be both good and bad (I was able to print out my insurance card 3 hours after signing up, but now my insurance card is on regular paper instead of more sturdier paper)

I had to show my proof of insurance to the California DMV for registration, they accepted it without any problems...

I would strongly recommend against doing business with Esurance. I purchased a policy from them and at the end of the policy they were going to raise my rates (for no apparent reason) so I found a better rate somewhere else and decided to switch. Towards the end of the policy they sent me an automatic renewal notice to which I replied that I did not want to renew and to please allow the policy to end as scheduled. They stated the policy would be cancelled and sent me a cancellation notice, but then went ahead and charged my credit card anyway. After informing them of the error they told me they would reverse the charge but did not and proceeded to charge my card four more times over the course of a week. Their customer service is terrible. I repeatedly tried to get them to reverse the charges and they would tell me they made credits, but the credits would not show up on my card. They eventually credited half of the charges back, but I have yet to see the other half and am now working with the BBB and my credit card company to get my money back.

Sorry for the long story, but I don't want others falling into the same trap that I did, as I would hate to see what would happen if you actually had to file a claim.

I will have to check them out, I have been shopping for insurance cause I just graduated from college and want to buy myself a WRX. USAA quoted me ~$2,500, Geico was ~$2,100, and Progressive was ~$1,100. I have called some others too and they all want ~$300/month. I don't know how Progressive's is so low, but it is good to hear some of you have had good experiences with them cause that's who it looks like I will go with.

BTW, I'm 22 yrs. old, with 2 tickets I got almost exactly 3 yrs ago.

I got a strange problem. I am with Liberty Mutual for the last 4 years. This year, my wife got her driving license (but she rarely drives...). I called them and asked how much the insurance premimum if I add my wife's name also in to my policy. They increased it by $400, because she had less experience. I said, I don't want. But they are telling me that they will cancel my policy, because there should not be any driving license holders without any insurance in the same household address....It is a law. Finally I ended up paying $400 extra.....for a mistake of calling them and asking the new premium. Any ideas why it happened?

Insurance companies suck hard. I dare to make a comp claim that they had to pay $700 for and then my rates go up almost $40 a month as a result. Why bother reporting claims. I'm 29, have 1 speeding ticket over 2 yrs ago and the one small claim and I have a tough time finding a premium for less than $1000/6 months. Not just young people get the shaft.

Everytime I see one of these insurance threads I get a quote from the companies and nobody ever beats my current rates at GEICO. Everyone always gives the same company names, progressive, AMEX, and so forth but the outcome for me is always a waste of my time. I hope someone can benefit from some of these other companies and get a lower rate!

WHOA! I drive a '93 Nissan Maxima in NJ and I pay 1200 a year!
It sucks in NJ, I had an accident, and couldn't even use the insurance cause it was cheaper just to pay it out myself.
Damn State Farm moving out of state, so if I charged the accident, I wouldn't be picked up by any other company.

BTW, The only age group with a higher number of fatal accidents per year than those over 75 are those 16 and under!
So much for young drivers doing the stupid sh*t!

I had to go to ElectricInsurance.com since my state wasn't covered. My results were:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0005'

Invalid procedure call or argument: 'LEFT'

/QQCoverages.asp, line 249

So that doesn't save me any money but it does save me a runtime error and the frustration of changing my insurance which is about $1200/year with 2 cars one being a 2002.

I dunno if this only applies to Ca Drivers or what...

if you have a traffic violation (ticket), you can take traffic school which will erase it. However, you can't do that more than once every 18months.

I'm 23, been driving for 7 years, 2 cars under my policy. Both corollas, my sister had an accident within the last 2 years. I haven't had an at-fault accident or ticket. I pay $1600 a year for both cars with coverage 50/100/25. oh yeah this is in Southern California with Mercury Insurance.

Males under 25 are crapped on by insurance agencies. Why aren't insurance agencies force to abide by sexual and age disrimination laws? Males pay more than females and males under 25 and females under 21 have to pay more.

Don't know who it is, but all my relatives in or near the Boston area have an insurance company that charges high rates (same for males and females) the first 3 years that you have your license and then a lower rate which is the same for everyone after that. This is how all insurance companies should be run. I am not your typical male under the age of 25 (I'm almost 23 btw). I have a perfect driving record and I still get shafted (although a lot less now than before I was 21). It really isn't fair. I can see myself now getting into my first accident on my 25th birthday as my rates are about to go down... heh...

Actually, women have better hand-eye coordination then men. That's why in sports like pool, shooting, and archery, female athletes are an equal to the male atheletes if not better. It's just that us guys do a lot of stupid stuff when we are driving. As for me, it turned out that Geico was cheapest among what I compared at $730 / 6months for an Audi A6 quattro (esurance, Progressive, and others). I think I might have gotten a cheaper rate at Allstate but that involves actually calling someone. Plus, I don't have much faith in Allstate anyway. I don't know how you guys get such cheap insurance rates. Maybe it's the difference in coverage since I opted for pretty good coverage overall.

Maybe it's Austin or something, but man...that sucks. I don't have any accidents, and maybe one speeding ticket on my record for 7 years (When do these get reset?), and I believe I'm a good and courteous driver..

Allstate's quoted me at close to $1000/year, so that's much better.

Also in Austin area. 24/single. Two accidents on my record. My car is classified as a "sports car" even thought it's now an old car (90 CRX). I kept getting quotes from $500-800 for 6 months due to record/age. This was even after being quoted by Progressive/Geico. I checked out Concord (Mercury Ins. company) and they had the lowest rates at under $390. I actually was originally quoted at $425 but they sliced off $40 after seeing that I had good credit. The rep. said that when I turn 25 and if I stay with them after my policy needs renewal plus don't get in any accidents/tickets that it'll drop even more.

If you're in the Texas area, I would actually recommend looking into them. You can get a quote from them off the web at http://www.concordtexas.com/ and they'll e-mail you a quote within 24 hours.

To answer the question about asking when accidents clear your record, it depends on the company. Some only look back 3 years, others look back 5 - 7 years.
