Will 7 require 64-bit hardware or will it install on a 32-bit machine also?
Word on the street is that the hardware requirements are at the low end of what Vista was at and that it's much less of a resource hog than Vista. Sounds like MS realized with the XP fiasco that there are plenty of machines still out there that are in need of a supported OS that doesn't require brand new hardware. So they aren't going to force 64 bit editions or anything like that.
The irony is that Vista even runs like **** on a 4 core 3.5Ghz PC w/ 4GB ram.
Vista: DIE !!!! DIE!!!!!!! DIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
Cant wait to get rid of it.
User error above for sure,I know it runs fine on my very humble X2 3800+ CPU and 4GB,as to Win7 you do know its more or less updated version of Vista with added features.
Personally I still want my Win8,we'll see a whole new OS not minor updates/improvements like Vista to Win7.
Nothing wrong with Win7 buts its not a huge improvement like some users here are saying.

Youre statement is false. Spend some reading reviews of Win7 before you comment. 9/10 reviews say its pretty stable now, and MUCH better than Vista. You can find reviews on www.google.com.

Your statement is false too, everybody has an opinion, notice I never said Win7 was bad yet people like you jump in here and start defending it like I said something bad,I say again its not a major improvement on Vista IMHO,if you don't like what I say tough luck.
As to reviews they don't mean much besides did I say it was bad?.... remember reviews are not your opinion or experience.

This is actually really interesting, normally MS is extremely protective of mainline Windows releases. I may be wrong here, but I don't recall MS ever releasing public betas or release candidates of XP or Vista; only of things like XP x64 Edition (aka Server 2003 minus the Server bits) and Windows Home Server where they were low-interest products that MS needed to attract more testers to.

For those that aren't competent enough to get Vista to run on their overpowered machine, you're not going to have much better luck with Windows 7 since they're very similar.
We culled this list from a post on the official Windows blog and its comments, so check it out before taking the plunge:
* Windows 7 Beta 1 will be made available for a limited time during the day on January 9, 2009.
* Visit the Windows 7 page on Microsoft's website for the link.
* It will only be made available to the first 2.5 million people to download the code. Demand will be huge, so prepare to act quickly.
* Microsoft has not announced a specific time on Friday for the release, but we can expect it will be later in the day so the west coast of North America isn't left out.
* Windows 7 Beta 1 will be offered as an ISO image. It's around 2.5 or 3 gigabytes, so you will need a DVD burner if you want to install it.
* You will be required to register before downloading so Microsoft can give you a product key.
* It will be build 7000.
* The beta will only support Windows Vista SP1 to Windows 7 upgrades. If you're not running Vista SP1 right now, upgrade before you try to install the Windows 7 beta.
* There is also a clean install option for the Win7 beta.
* There is no upgrade path from XP.
* There's only one version of the beta, which Microsoft says "is roughly equivalent the Ultimate edition of Windows Vista."
* The Windows 7 Beta will expire on August 1. You will probably be forced to go back to using Vista SP1 on August 1 (or maybe upgrade to Win7 Beta 2?).
* English, German, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi versions will be available Friday.
* Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions will be available (except for Hindi, which only gets a 32-bit version).
* If you're upgrading, remember to back up your PC. It's a beta, stupid!

Then I guess perspective is needed. What defines "improvement" I guess is subjective. But if you look at things most people do, like performance, resources, ease of use, productivity, and hardware requirements, it IS a huge improvement Its all, as you said, in your POV.

FYI I do have Win7 beta(testing on an old PC so its getting a real hardware test),as to "ease of use" come on give me a break since Vista ,XP or virtually any Windows OS is easy to use, resource wise some improvements, speed wise not really seen any at the moment,I'm still testing Win7 however being beta still its all subjective anyway. The final version may or may not be better in certain areas, huge difference definetly not.
Win7 overall is decent and may presuade those die-hard XP users to upgrade.
Win7 is nice and Vista like but if you want to see a huge difference then wait for Win8 .

I have it also. My experience so far has been similar to this. Very different for me than Vista or XP. *shrug*

Windows 7
Over the past few years, you've asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely. Now it's time to share an early look at how we've used your feedback. Windows 7 is faster, more reliable, and makes it easier to do what you want. Both the everyday things and the killer "is that really possible?" things. Dig into this site to see what's coming.
Want to try the Beta? Come back the afternoon of January 9.
And remember?this is just a preview. There's more to come.
