WoW FPS drop issues?

Anyone else have FPS issues running Wow? I've got a 4870 and my FPS was in the mid 20's!

Yea same thing.. especially around shat. It also happens sometimes when I look in a certain direction but most of the time i stay around 59-60.

my FPS drops with a 4870, but I'm on a 4400+ X2 non-OCed CPU

I just accept it now after I decided to reformat to see if it would improve anything

I don't know if either of you saw my GTX 280 / 4870 X2 comparison thread, but I took at look at both cards in Outland, and specifically in Terokkar Forest outside of Shattrath City. I'm not sure what settings and resolutions you guys are using, but I found the 4870 X2 to offer some pretty poor performance at 1920x1200 with 8x Adaptive AA enabled. 4x Adaptive AA was much better.

Eww,
I was looking to upgrade my video card. But i don't think i'll be looking at the 4870,
i get 30 fps in shat on my dell 3007 with a 8800gt

Why are you guys comparing graphics cards in an old, tremendously CPU/RAM-bound game?

WoW will run like crap in heavily populated areas. Period. Accept it and live with it, and your time in the game will be more enjoyable.

I was using edge detection with let app decide and max settings in wow

I'm running the game at 1920x1200 with everything maxed out. I've got four gigs of ram. I didn't notice this problem with my old 8800 GTX.

In my experiences, using edge or box makes no difference. Using 8x Adaptive AA is the real killer. It looks awesome, but it can get really 'chuggy'. If you drop it down to 4x in game, it will help your fps a lot. Ran fine for me even on even a 4850 at 4x, and it still looks really good.

Yeah, same thing here... In my experience, G80 and GT200 based cards run WoW the best at 8xAA. I had to drop down to 4x on every G92, RV6xx, and RV7xx card I've tried. It has always been my theory that it was due to the higher memory bandwidth on the G80 cards, but that doesn't really explain the drop in fps with the RV770 cards. Maybe somehow 256-bit GDDR5 doesn't equal 512-bit GDDR3 in some cases. I'm really not sure, but I am familiar with the fps drops you are talking about with the 4870.
