Well, here's my system specs:

1.33ghz Tbird (266mhz FSB)
Epox 8k7a Motherboard
512MB Crucial PC2100 DDR SDRam
Gainward GF4 Ti4200 64MB Video Card

Anywas... to say the least I was dissappointed with the initial performance of my video card... but after reinstalling WindowsXP.. WOW! I'm using the 29.42 Detonators and things couldn't be better! SOF2 runs like a dream in 1024X768..

Finally,... after years of waitng... I DESERVE this

I remember my performance sucked when I went from a GeForce 3 TI200 to a Radeon 8500 without reformatting. Unfortunately, it didn't improve much after the format.

I was fully expecting to have to format when I went from Radeon 8500 to GF4 TI4200, but my performance looks nice

Yeah, I still think that I could go for a CPU upgrade and get a nice speed boost... but I suppose we will see about that.

Nah. I'm running a 1.4 T-bird, and I haven't seen an FPS increase to justify the cost of getting a 2.1 athlon or P4. I've played around with some of those really nice custom built computers at work with them, and there wasn't that much of a difference. The only difference I really saw was in load times.

Well, I suppose my system is fast enough... I'm just about to upgrade my cheap, spraypainted black, fleamarket cracked 17" POS monitor...

If you have probs getting a new card to run then it is always worth checking out both the latest noon-beta gfx card drivers from both manu and chipset. It may be wise to have the latest mobo BIOS too. Another thing I would suggest would be to uninstall gfx drivers, use Detonator Destroyer, reinstall drivers and then reinstall DX8.1. If you have a slower CPU then you can't expect to get the most out of modern gfx cards, but if you are 1ghz+ then you do still get appreciable benefit from the likes of a GF4TI4200, esp when enabling AA & Aniso. Of course every extra mhz of CPU power helps the top cards to perform and does result in increased perf.

A faster CPU and better ram does definitely help.Me and my cousin just got our Visiontek Ti4200 cards today.I have an Athlon ThunderBird 1.2GHZ (not overclocked) with generic 256 SDram and a MSI K7T Turbo motherboard. My system has been great to me and stable. My cousin runs an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 overclocked to 1.6 and an Epox 8KHA motherboard with generic 2100 DDR ram.He scored close to 8900 on 3D Mark 2001SE and I scored almost 7200.He's about 1700 points up on me.I have an Intel 1.6a (hopefully clock it to 2.2-2.4) P4B533 mobo and Samsung DDR 2700 ram.Just waiting for a couple of parts to come in.Then!,I'm gonna blow him out of the water hopefully .3D Mark 2001 don't mean much. Its how well you run during games but a little bragging rights never hurt .

Hehe, I hear ya man!

If I can run SOF2 with the Texture quality on High in 1024X768 in 32bit then I will be happy... at this point, it's just too laggy for me...

Have you tried this card using open GL? My Leadtek G3 ti 2000 ran unreal in GL great, but my MSI G4 4200 has some visual problems with this API.
