*tears*

i thought he was going to pull off a bronze at best, and then his routine was practically flawless.

Repost, but definitely repost-worthy.

Simply incredible to come back from that in such perfect form. I can't believe he didn't cry like a baby up on the podium.

Glad I was watching.

The Korean guy was ROBBED.

Stacking a landing like Hamm did should have gotten a MUCH WORSE SCORE. No way did he deserve 9.1xx he got for it.

Hamm had a stunning High Bar though

They are all amazing but the Korean 19yr old was robbed.

I take it you know more than the judges in your vast experience?

No but they made a mistake. I'm not a Gymnastics expert but I know a thing or two about Gymnastics since I train at a club. Again I am no expert. But I'll ask my Gymnastics coach and other guys. And I am pretty dam certain a landing like he did which felt backwards and out of the tram lines DID not deserve a 9.1xx. He should have had at least a 1.0pt taken off for a landing that bad. Not just a few steps forwards but he 'fell' over at the end. But it was a 10.0 scoring though.

Is there not a set deduction for such a thing? You're implying that the judges just say, "oh, I think that looks like a 1.0pt fall."

Well apparently armchair judges know better.

Actually, the Koreans were not protesting Hamm's scores... they were protesting their gymnast's scores. They took away a tenth of a point automatic deduction from the eventual bronze medalist that should not have been taken away. It pretty much cost the Korean the gold.

However, I agree with the IOC... they shouldn't change the results and take the gold away from Hamm. However, I think it would be insanely sportamanlike for Hamm to give Yang his gold medal. Then again, the SKoreans always bitch and moan... they did it during the last Winter Olympics... they bitched about a Korean villian in James Bond... anything and everything.

I'm not just an armchair judge and don't claim to be. I probably have more Gymnastics experience here then most people here. I do train at a Gymnastics club. I don't compete I just do it for fun.

Yes there is a deduction rule set. I'm sure it is more then 0.5 though. Thats why I am saying it 'should' have been scored lower as I know that their is a list of deductions. If you don't get as high you lost some points, don't get the distance you lose points, if your legs separate you lose points or if they are bent etc.

I thought you guys knew that there was a scoring system and such that said for x for this mistake and x for that mistake? I guess not but I should have stated that in my 1st post here.

ironic isn't it?

hamm probably didn't deserve the medal, not necessarily because of how hamm was judged but because of how the bronze medalist was judged.

and the only reason he still wears the gold is because the koreans didn't protest in time. how stupid. if he didn't win the gold, he didn't win the gold, to allow him to keep it because they didn't protest in time is just ludicrous.

here is where you have to say, if it wasn't the US, if it had been any other country, the gold would have been stripped already. they suspended 3 judges because they scored the korean incorrectly and he got .100 less than he deserved.

I agree with both sides....

1. The rules are very clear that there is a window of time to object or complain about scores..
2. If they bend on this rule then what other rules will they bend on... There is a reason for these rules!
3. Bitching about just makes your country look bad...
4. I've seen men with less harsh landings then that get much worse scores on similar routines.
(Heck, I remember watching it and seeing the score and I was shocked at how high it was). I would have said at the most a 8.9x!
5. Hamm is not being very sportman like... He may have the gold but he will always know that he wasnt teh best there that night.
6. The judging did seem biased in favor of the U.S.

This whole mess would have been avoided if the Koreans noticed and made the complaint in time... In the end it is thir fault. In this case it is up to the Individual (Not the country) to decide if he is going to keep the gold or not... I hate how this makes us as a country look bad because some people make certain choices. I know if it was me I would have given up the gold..... That's just the way I am though.

Did you see the same South Lorean guy completely fall off the bar in the individual event competition? The announcer said something like: "I've never seen Paul Hamm mess up a routine like that before..." ha ha

i don't think we have the entire story yet. IF they failed to protest in time, WHY did the officials decide to review the film? something paul hamm has claimed NEVER happens?

the only reason would be IF the koreans DID protest in time but appropriate actions were not taken.

why suspend the judges if it was just a failure to protest in time?
