If you are saying that the kid is taking his WoW too far why is it that strange? Do people take football seriously? Nascar? Baseball? Don't knock someone for having a different passion in life than your own.

Playing WoW a few hours a day is fine, just like watching a sports game. But spending an entire day leveling a character? This kid never sees the sun, let alone people.

Perfectly normal/fine. How is WoW any different from other hobbies that require dedication?

Uhh, I did that with the FIFA games (starting 11, subs, formations etc.). Sometimes, when I was bored, I'd even write out Rome: Total War strategies while sitting in a boring class.

WoW just carries this stigma.

Who said he never sees the son? Who said anything about spending an entire day leveling? Maybe you mean when he said he'd level 39-49 on his hunter over the weekend on page 3 - really, that wouldn't take too long if he's any good (tho maybe he's not). Regardless, look at page 2, he barely scheduled any time for WoW that entire week. Kid seems fine to me.

We don't know enough to truly pass judgment, like others have said he just has he's goals laid out. It seems a little odd at first but he doesn't seem to be totally obsessed with the game. Besides we don't know if he has friends he hangs out with or what other activities he's involved in.

Playing games on a competitive level requires a LOT of teamwork and clear, concise communication. Of course, I'd put MMO's at the bottom of the ladder, since large scale raids or whatever are usually against NPCs (I've never played WoW, but I think that's how it works, correct me if I'm wrong). I think UT2k3/4 are great examples of how it could almost be a real sport. The bomb run mode or whatever it's called is great.

I mean, sure, you're not out there physically running about, but you are still using a skill set that not many people have, and it is still very competitive.

There's nothing wrong with the kid who wrote all that stuff. He has a hobby and is planning out his road to hit his goals in that hobby.

No different from someone making a mock fantasy draft in sports or writing out all the key stats for the players in pro sports.

Whats strange is taking pictures of the notes and then going through the trouble to even put the pictures on the web and getting entertainment from that.

It's just a schedule. In other words, he's way too organized and meticulous. I USE to do the same with my day :

7:15am - wake up
7:20am - shower and think about the route to take to work and what to eat
7:27am - Breakfast and check e-mail and think what to wear.
7:40am - Dress and get ready
7:50am - Leave house, think of most efficient route to get to car while putting shoes on.
etc, etc

Is this a high school kid? His schedule should consist of trying to get into a decent college. Of course, maybe he forgot that notebook somewhere else.

LoL - I can safely and sadly say that a lot of high school kids agendas are.........

"Monday get high as kite

Tuesday - Friday repeat Monday's activity

Sat and Sun - Go to moms"

Of course most can't even be bothered to organize even their most basic activities let alone write them down. Believe it or not folks some people have their shit together enough so that they are able to organized themselves and use notes to schedule their activities in life such as hobbies like WoW. I can picture this kid running a large company when he grows up if he maintains his level of organization and discipline.

so this was you right? the whole "my friend" thing is always about the OP. isn't that some kind of law? it should be.

No. My friend, Zach Blosser (Verbrennenkinder on this forum; third post in this thread) found it in his first block Physics class.
Also, I think it's hilarious that you guys think it's normal to plan your life around WoW, and to write down in a notebook what you are going to do in WoW. Life isn't about video games.

without committing my own opinion here...what is life about?

Seriously. That's like said it's stupid to plan your life around your kids soccer games, or their drama club practice. Maybe your own golf tournaments. Or weekend movies. Maybe summer weekend barbecues with your family. Or maybe planning your week around work? Doctor's appointments maybe?

Should I go on? Seriously...

Honestly, if this kid has enough brain to plan out a week's schedule for playing WoW as a pre-teen or teenager, I'd say that once he graduates from college, he'd potentially be excellent management material.

Remember, what's stupid to YOU doesn't make it stupid to the world.

Should I explain that video games are nowhere near as important as any of those things listed? Seriously...

It's my opinion that this is just a bit weird. I'm not one of the people who would vote Insane in my poll, I would simply say that it's not exactly normal to write out what you're going to do in a video game in your SCHOOL notebook (when you should be paying attention; I.E. learning, something that is important).

Remember, what's normal to YOU doesn't make it normal to the world.

Edit: Also; as far as planning when to play soccer goes, do you write out everything that you're going to do when you play?

It's not normal to you because you don't think like this kid apparently. He just might be the type of person who likes to organize and schedule his events in a timely manner. To people who are complete slobs, or don't have a orderly mind or who have no real goals in life or all of the above this might seem odd I guess.

As for your soccer comment you usually don't plan out everything you do in a game because a game is way to random to do so. Of course you can plan out strategies, warm up routines and scenarios along with formations to use in a game.

Drift3r's proposed high school kid's agenda is far more accurate. For example, many of the students at my high school (not me) had schedules that looked like this:
7:20 AM:
Sneak behind mower shed at school to buy dope from the grounds keeper, enjoy a smoke with him while being late for class
8:00 AM:
Apply nicotine patches to arm to combat urge to smoke while forced to stay in class
8:10 AM:
Disrupt class as much as possible to get the teacher to give up (most of the time not applicable for the teacher has already given up and let the kids do whatever they want because they cannot discipline them without fear of lawsuit) and to impress the fellow students.
Lunch break:
Have sex behind the gym with random people.

Go to cafeteria and throw stuff on the floor for the staff to pick up (again, no worry of discipline because the school administration / teachers either fear lawsuits or do not care).

Enjoy another smoke behind mower shed, regular cigarettes this time because grounds keeper is working.

After school:
Get Drunk

Kill animals that one sees on the side of the road on the way home with the $3000 sniper rifle one bought last week.

Go "mud bogging" with modified redneck truck (4 wheel drive truck with very large wheels and snorkel attachment to keep engine from going out). The level of mud on the truck is necessary because one must show the level of mud (and "mud bogging" modifications made to it in shop class) on the truck to the random person one will have sex with behind the gym the next day to impress them.

Make crystal meth

Take crystal meth and sell the rest to parents and siblings

Pass out

Wake up the next morning and repeat (if no overdose that night)

It's just some kid being bored in class and writing out his thoughts. Like you haven't planned out your week in your head, around some activity you enjoy. He just wrote it down. It doesn't mean he's obsessed- those goals he set for himself could be achieved in just a few hours a day, and it looks like he isn't playing every day.

There definitely are some crazies out there who've directed their addictive personalities at WoW, but this kid isn't one of them.

It always got me how these kids would use the word Twink in D2. You don't Twink a charactor, you tweak it!!! Make it better.

Twink

IIRC twink refers to young homosexuals who act very girly.

Twinks are a char that is overly geared and enchanted for their level. They get them to the level cap for the arena's and bg's and leave them there to own people. There are entire guilds and such. Some people really get into it. I had a Pally at 29. He was pretty sauce.

Yep, this is the term in MMORPG context. It was originally pulled from the homosexual connotation of the word because of an analogue between an older guy showering a younger one with gifts and goodies, and a higher level character feeding a lower level character gold and gear.

Contrary to the origin of the word, you do not actually need a higher level character to twink (yep it's a verb too). I funded one quite decent 29 twink with nothing but playing the AH, with initial capital from a gathering profession, and no help. Depending on the class, you might need help from high levels with particular quests for the very best possible gear.

Later made a 29 lock twink properly. Best-of-game everything, just one libram missing. I find noob complaints about 29 rogue twinks amusing - if you're going to QQ, at least give credit to the people who do *real* damage. It's a fun bracket - all classes are good after twinking if well played. Only ones I'm not 100% sure about are warr and shaman, obviously warr needs healer support.

Back in the day twinks could also be a good sign that the person paid for platinum with real money. I can't tell you how many time's I have had group members at low levels with over 1 million platinum in gear who end up not knowing at all how to play their class or role.

Look at that, he actually put in days where he is NOT going to play.

That's self control right there, I think this guy is absolutely fine.

Booze!

Seriously, it just looks like the kid was bored in that class. Here's the situation I picture:

He's good in Physics (or whatever subject) and gets his work done early (maybe even gets his homework done in class).
He's shy and doesn't talk to the other kids in the class (or maybe his friend is on the other side of the classroom).
He can't draw worth a diddly-poo.
He has an interest in WoW.
He has many things to manage in Wow.
He thinks "Why don't I just write down what I want to do with my characters!"

Is that being obsessive?
