Wow, I think I've finally saw the lowest of the low in trouble tickets.

This morning I was going through the Help Desk Queue to see calls were made and whether I can pitch in and help. There were the usual forgotton passwords and complaints that email is slow. As expected there was a bunch asking why Hotmail was down and how soon we could get it up (uhhh... ASAP....).

Then toward the bottom:

Issue: Users need assistance in setting wrist watch
Description: User requests hardware support because she does not know how to set a digital watch. It's a Casio.
Urgency: IMMEDIATE - User needs to use watch this afternoon.

I think I'll go home.

That is pretty stupid. I once got a call from somebody wanting to know what timezone Michigan is in. I believe that is the dumbest yet.

Hmmm, I guess my stock response would be, "Casio is not on our approved vendor list, therefore I'll be unable to help you with your problem. Thanks!"

One reason I am glad the help desk is being outsourced is for reasons like that. When it costs money per call, people will soon realize IT is not about setting watches or fixing the toaster oven. Another good thing is that my job will be more secure. The company we are working with is "guaranteeing" 4 hour emergency response. Uhhh.... wait a minute..... other sites might take more than four hours to repespond to emergencies but when emergencies happen in my office, they get resolved in less than 15 minutes. Oh well, whatever that want to do. I'll be more than happy doing less.
