>My power is on. It's not my problem.
>This is a no brainer

wow your a sad excuse of a human.... Of course it's a no brainer because only someone with no brains would think like you do. Trying to exaplain this to someone like you would be a waste of bandwidth anyway so....

This whole thing kinda makes me laugh. Why? Because people are so dependent on power that it's a tragity when it goes out. I mean come on people. It's just power... IMHO anyways...

Ray and NWM,
I am glad to hear that you two where not affected. I wasn't sure if NWM was. But I thought for sure that Ray was. Good to hear that things are all well there.

Eric, you shouldn't be too hard on Bush, he's only been in
office for less then 4 years and this problem has been around
for a little longer than that. Why didn't clinton do something, why because there wasn't a problem. Now that there's a problem, it's Bush's fault !!! Come on.
Were using 1950 technology's in 2003, Time to upgrade. It's everyone's Fault.

Thanks Wolfie. Only very isolated power problems in west Michigan - none where I'm at.

To the rest of my DC teammates: I'm sorry I posted OT in this thread - no excuse really. I'll try to be more considerate of this forum in the future.

So???????????
Whats your point?
I'd guess OhioDude refers to the totally unrelated, speculative, and condescending political rant that has precious little to do with the primary interest of this thread. Or I could be wrong (as I often am ).
You hit the nail right smack on the head.

Not like I'm hard on Bush, or Clinton... I still think he's an idiot.

I still remember when he opted to pass up the more efficient (less Power) appliances like air conditioners, dishwashers, etc...etc... For Lower Prices... Yeah, they might cost less but they use twice as much energy. That is why you can buy 89-99.00 Air conditioners all day long tho you will be paying for it in the long run on the power bill. If bush was a real president he wouldn't be walking away from the green party. He's the biggest dork around. But, hey if he would just do the right thing like...

Give tax credits for installing alternative energy solutions....
Give tax credits for buying a Honda instead of the biggest SUV. How about a Fuel credit. Bring the gas price down to people with brains that offer to buy a car that can get 40+ MPG instead of some gas sucking 15 or less. If you drive a car that get's over 35MPG then you pay XXX amount of a gallon of gas. Tho if you choose to drive a gas hog then you get to pay higher.

I once read that solar panels have come a long way and you would only need a 100X100 mile solar panel grid to power the "entire" USA.

We need a leader, be it Clinton or bush... we need someone that is going to step up to bat. So far no one has done anything. The only thing Bush wants you to remember at the polls is how far we have come for fighting wars.... uh... yeah... That's what 99% of my vote is going. I'm hoping for a big change the next election if Bush can't do it (and it's pretty darn obvious that he can't) then maybe some one new will?

And now you are telling me not to be so hard on this a$$hole? After the econemy has taken a dump, and we have spent almost every available resource in fighting a war we can?t win? Oh we may kill many bad people... But there are 100 more countries just like Iraq that will be standing up to fill in the gap. ANYWAY.... The sad part is this is gonna cost 10's of BILLIONS of dollars more then likly 100's of Billions of dollars to fix the power grid in our nation. The reason why Clinton avoided it was because of the cost. Now that we have already raised the ceiling on the deficit... Where do you tink we will get the funds to fix this problem? Hmmm Maybe we ought to tax the crap out of the midleclass. Heck we already gave billions back to the rich. Hmmm you know social security is doing pretty good maybe we can barrow 50 billion from that? Don?t worry we can just push the age limit up to 85 before you start seeing benifits.

Face it were screwed....

Any takers on where Bush will find the money to upgrade the power grid? My Take? He won't. This will be avoided and passed back in fourth in congress like a hot patato... Then Bush will come up some sort of half baked plan on how to solve it for the next term. Mean while he is cutting 180 million civil service jobs... like the army corps of engineers for example. You know the people that actually make power? Keep the generators turning.... This is classic.

I'm not saying you don't have any valid points ,but I see you have missed the point made by a few others.
The largely politcal points you are making belong in the political forum.

And I hope you don't really believe this line of yours

As far as I'm concerned .... WHO CARES???? What's the big deal about it? I don't care. My power is on. It's not my problem.

That's a very selfish attitude:disgust:
I'm the other side of the world from you & I care ,why? because I can understand the nightmare it would be to live through that ,you know what that ability is called ? Empathy, maybe you should learn about it
Btw ,next time it may affect you......

Wolfie
I don't think your seeing the big picture ,being in the 21st Century means we're dependant on power ,& this includes hospitials & other essential services too(like water).
Let me give you 1 small example in my case where it would be more than just inconvenient ,just over a year ago I was diagnosed with Diabetes.I need to take Insulin to control my blood sugar level ,insulin shouldn't be allowed to exceed 25C or it can 'go off'.So at 25C upwards it needs to be stored in a fridge ,now if I were to loose power for more than a day in a hot period I could have real troubles!

Anyway ,back to the topic,I hope all you guys have power back now!

Yeah, maybe I am a little shelfish... So what? Just because I work in a power plant... 13 of them. It really doesn't mean I can't say "I TOLD YOU SO!" Maybe when you look at the big picture after report after report that this was and is going to happen. It was just a matter of time. So, if no one is going to listen back in 1996 then why is anyone going to care about it now?

So what? ,selfish isn't good! (mostly)

I think people are listening now with that little power outage

So whats up with the system? is it insufficient spare capacity or aging infastructure?

It looks like the power plant 5 miles from my house caused the blackout . A coal fired plant on the coast of Lake Erie. Good fishing spot so I hear.

Interesting point - people in NYC look up and run scared, because there are these strange dots of light in the sky, even with no electricity!
