In researching for my PC upgrade, I had planned on getting 2GB of DDR400 for my machine. Now I'm wondering if anyone has actually upgraded from 1GB to 2GB and noticed a difference in WoW or any other game. I do hear that BF2 show improvement, but I don't play that one.

Is it worth saving $80 to only get a single gig, or would I be able to notice the difference?

I've only played the game with 1gb, but am very happy with its performance with this amount. If anything, I wish I had a gruntier CPU pushing the game; it gets a little choppy when I play music (though I do a lot of DSP which eats up a good 25% of my CPU cycles).

i ran wow fine with 1gig ddr333 CL2.5, sempron 2800+, and a radeon 9800 NP at 1280x1024. if you have anything better than that, you'll be fine.

2 gigs if your serious. MMO's eat tons of ram, 2 gigs will help you out a bunch. I just ordered a 2 gig set and can't wait till it arrives.

Also with a new operating system on the horizon and new games like BF2 coming out all the time, you will future proof yourself becaue it won't be long before 2 gigs is ram standard.

don't really notice any difference.. but i'm using 3GB and it sure speeds up rendering in Max7, faster filters on photoshop, and faster audio/video encoding.. so even though there's not too much difference on WoW.. more memory is always a sound investment..

do you watch/record with your PVR in a little window while you play WoW ? I do and need 2GB badly. I'm sure it will help.

I'd say WoW could benefit from 2G... if Blizzard hadn't taken away all incentive for world PvP which is the only real situation where you'd have armies of players in one spot.

Yes, it will run "fine" with 1gb... But I definitely noticed an improvement when I moved up to 2gb.

2gb makes the system run smoother in general..back with 1 gb the system would get bogged down after long periods of usage or using a memory heavy program...now i can switch between those programs that used to slow down the comp with ease

I have 1 gig..it runs totally fine all settings on highest at 1280x1024..can play for as long as I want it won't get choppy..can also minimize and go back to the program super fast, no matter how long I've been playing. I say 1 gig is fine.

Have you ever played WoW with 2gb?

I used to play WoW at 1280x1024 with max settings using 1GB, and it ran perfectly smooth. The only real problems I had were in IF, where it would come to a complete stop while it loaded textures for the 111010922^12 people standing around. It also gave me a similar pause when I would task out and back in to the game.

I switched to 2GB and it made a pretty big difference for me at least. IF loads character models fairly quickly now, and although it takes a few seconds for people to appear, it never comes to a dead stop. I also have no pause when tasking out and back in, which is very convenient since I like to keep thottbot up so I can find quests/items/npc locations etc. quickly, or load a new playlist to keep the MC drudgery to a minimum .

If you can afford the upgrade, there isn?t really much of a reason not to go for it (Unless you need some spectacularly OC?able ram). 2 x 1GB sticks of CAS2 go for pretty cheap now.

Wow takes over a gig? Even when I play for a while and log out and check peak usage on ram I don't top 1 gig. Going from 512 to 1 gig made a HUGGGE difference. I went from low 20s-mid 30s to mid 30s-60(LCD is set to 60Hz so it caps it there). I just find it hard to think it could benefit from that much ram. I would think the whole IF lag etc is more the result of not sending data fast enough and hitting the HDD to load up all the combonations of what people are wearing rather than a lack of ram, espceially at 1gig.

Then again there are those in there that swear by 2 gigs I would think its not that necessary~

I played WoW windowed, while running WinTV in PVR mode (recording), on a gig of memory (DDR400) without an issue.

I upgraded to 2GB recently and didn't notice a big gain performance wise.

However, tabbing in and out of WoW is much quicker and smoother. As is logging out in major cities (used to logout fine, but the desktop would be slow for about 30 seconds.. now there's no delay).

And I think that some places load alittle quicker. I've also noticed that I can tab out when Org is loading (accidentally did it on a sunday afternoon) and it doesn't cause a huge delay like it used to.

So, I wouldn't say it's necessary.. but it's definitely nice to have.

I have played WoW with 512, 1gig and 2gig... If your system is streamlined 1gig is all you need. 2gig makes the Windows Environment snappier, not WoW.

x2 3800+
ASRock 939 Dual SATA2
2gig OCZ cas 2 ddr400
6800NU ( unlocked and overclocked w/ NV Silencer )
SB Audigy 2 ZS
19inch 8ms LCD

A64 3000+
ASRock K8S8X
1gig Corsair TwinX cas 2 ddr400
Gainward Silent 6600
Chaintech AV710
Television

Athlon XP 2800+
ASUS A7N8X-X
512 Giel cas 2 ddr400@333
XGI Volari V8 256mb
Sounblaster Live!
KVM'ed

All run WoW excellent at 1280x1024 although the 2800+ could get bogged down. I say could because I traded off my WoW account. WoW is about the only game that the Volari V8 runs well and looks good. No other game I tried really look well... and their latest driver stinks.

That's what I wanted to hear, I think. I'm currently running with 768MB, and the only real slowdowns are in IF or larger raids, where everything stops for 2-5 seconds as things load. It is also painfully slow to switch back and forth between WoW and Windows when I need to browse or change TeamSpeak channels.

And since I'm planning on getting the 2005fpw, I will be running at a high resolution, as well. 2GB it is.

I just put in 2 gigs of ram in today and notice a big difference in WoW. The game just generally feels alot smoother with less quirks here and there. Most won't notice it but if you played hardcore FPS games like q3 you will pick up on it.

The game runs smooth for a long time and I don't need to rezone or relog for hours. IF and everything else runs very nicely. I highly recommend 2 gigs if you can spare it for WoW, and as I said before it will benefit the future. My system also feels alot more responsive even when I multifask surfing the net during WoW everything is alot smoother/faster.

I'd actually like to get the 2005fpw or the 2405fpw (when the price comes down).

I've played WoW at widescreen resolutions and it's much nicer. Mostly because you have the extra real estate on the side to put bars and party/raid frames on the sides.

The week I spent in Texas, I used a widescreen res and it was kinda strange moving back to 1280x1024.
