Wow, Metro: Last Light is really good

I finally got around to finishing Metro 2033 after dragging my feet on it for the last few years, and I was mostly doing it so that I could justify starting Last Light. I've started that tonight, and am really impressed with it so far.

The game looks great, and I just think it plays well all around. I like the feel of combat and the layout of the environments... I like the enemy designs so far... I like the whole look of the game and everything. 2033 was solid, but this seems like a significant step up.

Glad I finally got going on this series.

My admiration for the game has only increased all the more after I read this article about the conditions the developers faced while making it (power outages for days, extremely cramped offices in Kiev, a budget 10% the size of something like Bioshock Infinite, etc.)

After playing LL for a bit, do you feel it was necessary to finish 2033 first?

Personally, I don't care if 2033 is necessity or not, I will still play it first. I have a friend who has it on Steam and is in the beta to share his library, and he said he'd give me the game for free if he could, haha. He couldn't stand it, for whatever reason, but I intend to bum it off of him (rather than buying it during the Holiday Sale), and I'll play it before I get to Last Light. however, I've got to get through Dishonored first, and I'll probably try to finish Half-Life (assuming Steam properly backed my saves up before I reinstalled my OS).

But Last Light has oddly-low scores on Steam (I think 81/100), yet everyone talks it up like crazy, so I'm curious to see how it goes. I'm expecting to really like it, but it's just perplexing how it has such "meh" scores while being greatly praised.

Timely post, I was just thinking the same thing

I finally got a copy during the winter sale, and am about 3/4 of the way through the story..

VERY immersive game and atmosphere, especially with the sound effects if you have a good system/headphones they really add to the experience. I also love the small touches like the gas mask ~ Wiping off the mask, and having to manage the cartridges add to the urgency without feeling like micromanagement busywork added to increase difficulty.

The swamps, a demon snatched me up and started flying away with me.. I had no idea wtf was going on but was scared s##tless, you fight and get away and he drops you in the swamp from about 25 ft up ~thrash around and pop out coughing and sputtering very disoriented

Stealth works really well in this game too.

Very surprised this game scored so low.

Personally, I liked the first game somewhat better than MLL, but both were great games. Easily the 2 best shooters I have played since COD4 MW.

It is not necessary to play the first game to play LL, and apparently what ending you get in the first game does not affect the story of the second game, since I havent seen any way to load a save from the first game. You just need to know what happened at the end of the first game for the story of the second game to make sense, but I think it is eventually brought out during the second game.

Metro Last Light is a fun game but if pales in comparison to Metro 2033, IMO.

The graphics are there but the characters, plot, story is not that deep. Metro 2033 had moments that would give you goosebumps. I've read the book and they had built Metro 2033 to perfection.

Hence, have played 2033 atleast 4-5 times over the last 2 years but don't feel like playing Last Light Again.

For anyone who has not played 2033, and you like Last Light; you're in for a treat..

Damn! Now I feel guilty for waiting for it to go on-sale before I bought it.. Maybe I'll buy another copy as a gift ( once it goes on-sale again of course )

Somewhat similar to what happened here also. I must have played the 2033 close to ten times already. I still haven't finished all the DLC material for Last Light. But i wouldn't say that it pales in comparison to the first one. To me it's more of the same, minus the "new" experience thingy.

Everything you said can also be found in the first one, minus the weather effects and the wiping of the mask.(I'm just using your post as an example)

I did find annoying the introduction of the bosses, they don't quite fit the general Metro atmosphere(IMO), probably added because the difficulty was severely reduced in Last Light.

Hopefully it'll grow on me once i play the campaign again in the restricted mode.

Also, as you've played 2033 so many time, you'd love this: http://speedy.sh/vs99y/METRO-2033.pdf

Sweet! this is me.. I picked up 2033 during the sale as well.

Give it a shot; It's Now or Never !!

Plus, it's so much much fun playing this game in winter months as the game setting is also cold/frozen landscape and it's realistic environments make one feel like as if you're actually there.

Got it from the XMas sale, but haven't started it yet. Right now I'm in the middle of playing Skyrim and don't want to multitask. Loved 2033 and am looking forward to playing LL, but I have other games too....ugh STEAM!!!

Metro: Last Light was awesome, if only a little short and scripted/derivative. But only a little. Some websites gave it somewhat lower reviews than it deserves which is not cool.

I beat the whole thing in about a week or less, and was left very satisfied. Now, thinking of coming back to play all the released DLC.

By the way, Metro: 2033 was awesome as well.

I finished it last night, and really enjoyed the entire thing.

I see what you're saying about scripted/derivative - there certainly were some slightly corny and "by the numbers" plot twists, etc, but it didn't bother me too much.

I thought the game had an awful lot going for it, and it looked absolutely fantastic and so detailed on my machine.

And having finished both Metro games the last few days, I'm actually making some progress again on finishing games. I am going to try to keep this trend up... I guess I'll try to finish Crysis 3 tonight...

I need to start these 2 games soon since I got 2033 on a steam sale cheap, and got LL free with my recent video card purchase. Glad to know ya'll liked them. Now I will have to hunker down and play them, lol.

Agree with this thread entirely. Gonna go make a thread in console gaming because it's free now on PS3. Game is underrated.
