They get smaller, Acually just yesterday on the screen savers on techtv they built a pc in a mac, they did it using a pc that fit into the cdrom bay. It was a complete pc capable of running xp and programs that fit into bay. You should be able to dig up this article from www.thescreensavers.com (techtv.com/thescreensavers)... but there are smaller computers that fit into your palm (smaller then a PDA), but nothing quite as complete as one of the small pcs that fit into bay or a PDA.

I wouldn't mind one of these

They are literally CD sized, come with S370/472, firewire, usb2, lan, tv out etc

Very cool, and they have blue LEDs too!

Small form factor PCs are definitely cool. However, the only real use I can see for them is a business tool or multimedia hub. Maybe there are more uses, but it cannot compare to the specs on the shuttle systems. Those can actually be used by hardcore games, as they are packed with the latest hardware.

I think currently people want performance not size, and also want something that doesnt put a hole in your wallet.

I don't know what's so great about this thing. You're better off getting an old laptop as the specs would be the same. A real functioning PC would need at least one pci or agp slot and integrated video with 64meg at minimum, plus be capable of fitting a normal 3.5" hard drive. If it can't do that, you basically have a laptop without the screen.

Yeah really, for the price and performance best to get a laptop. Alteast you get a good system and a screen....

That 5.25" drive pay PC rocks! I could easily fit two or three PCs in my current tower that way. I would put two in two drive bays and then find a KVM switch that I could fit into another bay and work it all that way in one clean, neat package.

Interesting stuff. Of course, none match the versatility of Shuttle with AGP and PCI slots. If shuttle would include slimline DVD drives and laptop hard drives it could get much smaller but would loose much of it's configurability (Toshiba is the only company that offers slimline DVD-RW drives). I've seen 5.25" bay brackets that hold both a laptop HDD and a slimline drive for those that can source these That would leave room for two more 3.5" HDDs That hand-held 300w PSU Intel was showing off over a year ago would REALLY help out in that situation!
