Do you know the type of breast cancer ie invasive ductal, invasive lobular, DCIS, LCIS? That can determine outcome as well as receptor status of the tumor.

Thank you all for your support.

I believe it is mixed ductal/lobular... and we aren't sure if the tumor is progesterone, estrogen, or HER2 receptive.... because she's black, she's more likely to have the triple negative type cancer... which is really hard to fight...

They aren't giving us many results right now because most doctors are on vacation for the upcoming three day break...

We have an appointment first thing Tuesday morning with a surgeon to decide our options... what concerns me is that everyone seems to be hush, hush... not a lot of information is being given, no idea of a prognosis... so I'm just worried that it's just *that* bad that they have to sit us down first...

She'll get through it just hang in there. You have to think positive and as another member mentioned from personal experience you have to really be there for the person in these times (seems you're doing a fantastic job though ) As far as the doctors' secretive nature with cancer it's very hard sometimes to precisely diagnose and identify everything as you mentioned. Sometimes you just have to wait which is usually the hard part.

Well, it's too early to tell how advanced the cancer is. you are only at the very beginning of the work up. the doctors don't have many answers yet.

Gotta evaluate lymph node status, distant metastases, receptor status (PR, ER, HER2), etc. The surgeons will discuss how to proceed next and what options are available.

Well you can't be dead yet. You both need to be fully alive. Cancer is a terrible thing but it is not a death sentence so don't treat it as such. If you are strong it will reflect in her and her attitude towards battling her cancer.

I work with a lady who was diagnosed and underwent the whole treatment. You would not know she had cancer unless she confided that fact in you.

She's already made the decision to remove the whole left breast and go through chemo... my beautiful one-breasted bald bundle of joy... she's going to look so cute... I can't wait to tell her everything is going to be okay after she's out of surgery...

You have my condolences.

Sorry man hope it works out for you both. If it was caught early she should be fine. Oh, and congrats on the amazing ability to tell your friends and family FU if you don't like it. Wish I did that a lot younger than I did.

Sorry to hear that man. Best of luck to both of you but never give up hope. Be with her and stay strong through whatever happens.

You got to hang in there and be the brave one for her sake. Try to lead your lives as normal as possible. Discovered early enough, full recovery is common.

Get a second opinion before you decide to have anything done!!
My mom was diagnosed a couple years ago and the doctor wanted to remove the breast.
She got a second opinion and they were able to perform surgery without removing the breast.
Removal is a very traumatic experience mentally and physically, so do yourself and your fiance a favor and go in for a second opinion. See if there are any university hospitals the specialize in cancer.

+1 to whomever said to keep a positive attitude. She's young, y'all can make it through this. Modern technology is great and miracles happen every day. Y'all obviously already have the persevering attitude that it takes to get through this. Wishin' y'all the best.
