It was Todd Bertuzzi who nailed Steve Moore, breaking his neck back in March of 2004. He was suspended indefinitely. Of course, the next season was lost due to lockout. Unfortunately, the NHL went retarded and allowed him to play the 2005-06 season. Bertuzzi ended up missing only 13 regular season games. THIRTEEN.

Ummmm, Marty McSorely hit Donald Brashear in the head with a stick and received a one year suspension.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-sSoF40e30

Okay... are you trying to defend the NHL's actions in Bertuzzi's case?

Nope. Just pointing out that there was no stick-to-head contact. There was in the McSorely iincident.

Well, if you want to be technical, McSorely didn't drive Brashear to the ice, whereas Bertuzzi did so with Moore.

10 years in Federal Prison sounds about right.

WTF.

He needs to be banned from the game. There is no excuse for removing the helmet and stepping on his face. With those metal cleats, it could also be attempted murder. I dont want to see that a@@ playing the game ever again. WTF is wrong with people nowadays.

I am all for sportsmanship, but a 5 game suspension is the most he should get.

I am also a Dallas Fan, and I think that was total bs, but lets not overreact (not that ATOT would ever do that stuff goes on on the field all the time that you never see.

Sigh..

He DID NOT remove the other guys helmet. It had come off during the play. Furthermore, he's owned up to it, unlike a lot of guys:
"I apologize to Andre," Haynesworth said. "What I did was disgusting. It's something that should never happen. I mean, I'm not a dirty player. I don't play dirty. I have respect for the game. What I feel like is I disgraced the game, disgraced my team and disgraced my last name."

He should, and will be, suspended. But these claims that he should be "thrown in jail" are just ridiculous. Anyone that has ever played football understands that its a violent game and violent things, including things that go well beyond the rules of the game, happen, and should be dealt with within the realm of the game, not in a court.

Garbage like that really makes me want to watch football less. Honestly...with all the garbage in Cincinatti and players like Ricky Manning I'm starting to think the league is rotting from the inside out

sur ehe is sorry. he is going to majory reemed by the NFL.

"i'm not a dirty player. I don't play dirty" yeah bullshit. so stomping on someones head is clean play?

IF this was done anywhere else but a game the guy would be arrested. hell i agree with some that he should be. that is assault. stomping on someones head is NOT part of football.

I've got nothing against the Titans, but Haynesworth deserves a life suspension from the game.

This was not a cheap shot made during a play when emotions were high. It was made after the play was over while the opponent was down on the ground and Haynesworth had a few seconds to cool off. It *was* deliberate attempt to seriously injure another player, and needs to be dealt with as such.

He should be kicked out of the league. Any other profession, if you attack a coworker, you are fired, and probably also litigated.

Yeah violence is part of the game for them, but what he did was not part of the ordinary course of the game.

You know, they should really bring back the stocks for guys like this.

This isn't The Office. It's a competitive sport. I'm not condoning what he did, but they're opponents. Your comparison doesn't make sense.

Happens quite a bit in rugby - no helmets. Still that sounds pretty bad...

not to fuel up the rugby/football debate, but rugby guys don't look like this:
http://www.titansproshop.com/images/products/medium/8908_haynesworth.jpg

Do they don't. That guy looks fat and unfit.

If you think AMerican football teams are bigger or tougher you have never seen a rugby team. A very quick google image search turns up these:

http://www.tomwardsport.com/assets/images/portfolio.jpg

http://images.supersport.co.za/HabanaTacklesSANZ105.jpg

/Edit: how bout Jonah Lomu for a big scary guy?

http://website.lineone.net/~malcolm.hough/JONAH%20LOMU%20IN%20ACTION.jpg

http://www2.raisport.rai.it/news/sport/rugby/199910/13/3804bef8017b3/lomu1.jpg

http://www.uvea-mo-futuna.com/IMG/sosefo.jpg

American football players bigger? Most definitely. You don't see very many Rugby players running around at 250-350lbs.

Lomu is 6'5" and 120kg - that's got to be over 250lb, and he's not even a 'prop', who is usually the heaviest member of a team.

Why would American football players be bigger? Americans are not naturally bigger than europeans or anything like that...

And I say again - the guy pictured as an example of an NFL player is fat. This is no good in rugby as you have to run for 80 minutes.

Stop trying to act like Rugby >= Football in terms of physical strength. I would give it to you that Rugby players have more stamina/endurance due to the constant running, but besides that, they wouldn't compare.

Actually I'd love to see a grudge match between Rugby union, Rugby league, Aussie rules, and NFL at some compromise between the 3 games. Maybe a form of rugby but without the forward-pass rule. No wussy armour of course

The rugby/aussie rules folks would be manhandled...not to mention the fact that the CBs and WRs in the NFL are extremely fvcking fast on turf and take/give beatings every sunday.

Also, the whole "wussy armor" bit is and always has been retarded. The hits dished out in football are way more severe than those in the other three sports you listed.

absolutely unexcusable. stepping on the head of your opponent..... uncool.

not only stepping on the head. he took off the guys helmet then did it. he should be out ofr the year.

honestly?! that adds a whole other element to the equation...I agree with you. At bare minimum it should be the rest of the season and a $10,000 per game fine.

$25,000 and a couple of games at worst.

yeah, 25grand and a game or two is what he'll get.

should be banned from professional play, though. he completely lost his ability to control himself out there... WTF that sh1t is scary, and he needs to never play again.

geez, quite overracting about "life suspension" or "10 years in jail". Ya what he did was extremely stupid and should be made an example of. But life suspension or jailtime is not going to happen. And listening to Chris Collinsworth go on about "the police should have come right out there and put handcuffs on him". Come on. I say give a 1/2 season suspension. I predict 4-8 games. Plus he'll have to have the bad name attached to him and probably take some cheap shots from some O-linemen in the future....and rightfully so.

I think he should be banned from NFL play, period. Fights happen, people hit each other, to some extent it's part of the game. But when you intentionally use your cleats to stomp someone's head when they are on the ground - that's inexcusable.

I've never really watched rugby, but I decided to do a quick youtube search after this discussion. Whoever said "The hits dished out in football are way more severe" should watch this. Not exactly the same kind of hits as football game, but certainly nothing to scoff at either.

You obviously didn't see it. Andre was on the ground. Haynesworth kicked Andre's helmet (which was still on his head) off to the side, then kicked/stomped Andre's head. Not one moment of anger, he puporsely did it twice: the helmet then the head. This will get 4 games $30k minimum, I am looking/hoping for 12 (rest of season).
