not to fuel up the rugby/football debate, but rugby guys don't look like this:

Do they don't. That guy looks fat and unfit.

If you think AMerican football teams are bigger or tougher you have never seen a rugby team. A very quick google image search turns up these:

/Edit: how bout Jonah Lomu for a big scary guy?

Difference being they do not intentionally stomp on someone's head, if it happens normally it's an accident.

Ron Artest got banned for a year for punching someone in the crowd (who threw something at him to begin with [althought it was definitely NOT justified]).

This guy should get banned for life.

Long enough? eh...

Yeah, 16 game season vs 162... still pretty weak. He should be out for the year.

I assume he doesn't get paid while he's suspended, right?

Right, no pay if you don't play.

This is plain out assault. Poor sportsmanship + bad temper + lack of game skills = hosltile work environment.

The courts, not the league should be handing out the punishment for this one. It should involve jail time. And if the league fails to remove him permanently from the NFL then the NFL should be in court facing a few suits themselves.

Having your face mashed after the play should not be an option in any work environment. Especially a game.

The NFL messed up on this one. This punishment does not fit the crime; it doesn't even come close. The NFL is basically saying, "It's ok if you stomp the fvck out of someone's face, but let this 5 game suspension be a lesson to you".

This is the direction the NFL is going to and apparently its going to get worse. Granted, there are a few role models in the NFL, but every team in the league has their "thug" or two; players that think they are above the law and are totally out of control.
Supposedly this Titan player also had issues in college where he had a few scuffles with team players.

Yep. He's going to lose half a million in pay during his suspension.

What's interesting is that they are calling a 5 game suspension unprecedented...never been done before in the NFL for on-field behavior.

<shrug>I guess. I would think that a full year suspension would have been more fair. Though, I'm sure they had to consider that the NFLPA would have fought a full year suspension...

Heard on the radio this morning that the Nashville police said they were willing to worth with the Cowboy and Garoud if they wanted to press charges. Apparently they don't though.

Remember the incident where the kid killed his sister imitating pro wrestling? I can see it now.

"Mom, we were just pretending we were NFL players and I was stomping on her head like I was supposed to!"

Now if it was hockey thats the norm but it shouldnt take place in football and should be out of hockey as well too.

He should be suspended for the rest of the year at least. What was the penalty for that hockey player that maliciously whacked another hockey player in the head with his hockey stick and drove him into the ice? Wasn't it a one or two year suspension? This sounds just as bad if not worse.

Suspended?! My ass! He should be removed from the league and imprisoned for aggravated assault and battery. It's time we send a message to these spoiled brat athletes that you cannot get away with this kind of behavior in a civilized society. Just because you do what you did on a football field does not mean laws should not apply to you. If you did this to somebody on the street you can bet your sweet ass you'd be charged with something and be jailed. This is just flat out criminal behavior and should be treated as such. This man should never set foot on the grid iron again.

Man, as this guys history comes out, he is bad news. This is his third such incident but the first two happened on the practice field. Durring practice in college he left the field and came back with a metal pipe to beat some guy with, before he was intercepted by coaches and other players. Then in pro training camp kicked another guy in the jewels.

As far as I'm concerned the guy has proved he is unstable and likely to do this sort of thing again. I hope tennesse drops his ass, and he never plays again.

Apparantly ripping a guy's helmet off and stomping on his head is unprecedented too.

why wouldnt he get recruited? they do not care what he has done off the field or on it. long as he can help the team.

i agree though. with his past history 5 games isnothing. but then again i felt for what he did he should have gotten a years suspension.

wonder how many games it will be after appeal?

Tennessee. Look up Jason Respert and even Haynesworth doesn't seem quite so bad.

To be fair, he actually kicked the guy in the chest and they were wearing pads.

But yah, Albert has always had issues. And yes, he was recruited and played for Tennessee but come on, every major program has those guys.

I'm still not happy with the punishment. He deserved more imho.
